Republican, Democrat or Other
So, what are ya? And who do ya favor? And why? Were ya always that? Why'd ya change? Or not? Unsure? Undecided? What might or might not decide ya?
Let's discuss in this build-up time to next year's election, shall we?

"There is no difference whether you have a basketful or a small piece. They all taste the same," Hodja remarked.

It's not like our votes do anything anyway.

Hah word.
You know... if you examine all the figures.. the percentage of votes for Bush in Florida (in 2000) that came from Muslims was large enough to have completely swayed the thing the other way...

Nah not me. Anyone could tell his domestic policies were shot right from the get-go. That's why... he didn't win. I find it almost laughable when Muslims get caught up in the "family-values" nonesense that the Republicans have recently tried to build themselves around. For Muslims, separation between Church and State is the best thing we can ask for.

I never understood the Muslim support of Bush in the 2000 election.

It's the family values bs. That, and the fact that Gore's running mate happened to be Jewish. I kid you not, I once heard an imam preaching that if we voted for Gore, Leiberman would assassinate him so he could become President and Jews would run the world.
We're so quick to lash out at small-minded bigotry but don't recognize our own ridiculousness. Logic and objective thinking to Muslims are like medicine and bedtime to a 4 year old.

Re: Republican, Democrat or Other
i'm a registered republican but i've voted democrat the last two elections (presidential and local). i voted for bush in 2000. kerry in 2004. my family had always been republican, being socially conservative immigrant small-business owners with an eye toward upward mobility and progress, and also a memory of rightwing support of pakistan and muslim overseas issues in the 80s. also, we're from a very cuban, very pro-republican locality here in miami, though i'm not sure how much that does or doesn't play into it, since local politics are mostly about local favors to local constituencies on local issues. (as someone in the construction field, my dad was often wooed or took part in dinners hosted by candidates of both parties promising various things to various local developers and subcontractors. and he would go to them regardless of political affiliation, because that game was entirely different. he even went to a democractic dinner and got to meet bill clinton, while also going as a minority delegate to the republican national convention one year.) but i think my whole family jumped ship after the onset of the war on terror and the civil liberties problems of recent years. not to mention "the economy, stupid," which has not been very kind to us lately either. (see: broke thread)

Re: Republican, Democrat or Other
Im really liking this Ron Paul guy and he is BY FAR the most popular candidate online. He won every Republican debate on-line poll. Its impossible to watch a Youtube clip without getting spammed with Ron Paul 08 in the comments section. He also has about as many meet up groups as the other front runners combined. And has raised a ridiculous amount of money from online donations.
However because of his Paleo-conservative/ Old school Republican views, the Zions dont take a liking to him and hardly report him in the news. Still he manages to be a front runner in all Republican polls. I know he still has a 1% chance of winning, but you might as well vote for him and try to influence future candidates rather than go with Hillary or Giuliani/Romney. Fact is one of them is gonna win because thats who the electorate wants to win. Obama is just running a stunt here but may be a serious contender in the future.

Muslims have no place in a two party system...
Socialists until a Shariah Party forms Inshallah
