I don't think the definition of it made it a racial slur but the way it was said and used.

Exactly. Just because the US doesn't use the term doesn't mean its not offensive.

IN the UK racists traditionally don't use the N word, doesn't means its not any less offensive just because they don't use it..

most of of guys who aren't offended, don't live in the UK where it actually a IS a racial slur.

I do get offended if it's said by a non Pakistani person, where i know its said in a derogatory way. but i wont of its said between myself and other Pakistanis. the mentality here is that i know its used by pakistanis to perhaps take away some of the negative connotations the term has.

If you call me one, I keeeeeeeel yooooooo!

Seriously though, it feels like every few months someone asks this question, normally a n00b, and even when we answer it, people still say "yeah but why is it offensive". Look, dumbos, if someone says something is offensive, and is used offensively in their community, then its offensive.

In the UK, we have a bad association with the word. It was used by racists, skinheads, NF (which is like our version of the KKK). Men would be put in hospital, children beaten, women beaten, houses set on fire, excrement put through letterboxes, firebombs on mosques, pigs head on muslim buildings like mosques and community centres. And all the while they would call us that term. Dirty paki, 'effin' paki, bloody paki, die you paki, and so on. We do not like that word for that reason.

I'm very happy that it doesnt have that same connotation in America and you can use it in a postive, abbreviated manner, but please respect our wishes when British Pakistanis say that we don't like that term, and don't like being called it. Thank you.

We Americans have lots of other nonsensical slurs, we don't really need to borrow any from the British.

You forgot the eggs little kids can be so mean. This one time al the kids in our neighbourhood ganged up against us, and then we called our cousins

That was a bad way to play it but it was better than getting our heads kicked in. They were always supporters of the Conservative party too, obviously they didn't know what it meant i think they picked it up from their parents.

A couple of years back i got egged again, and i was like "hell, no, not in this lifetime!" and took off my shoe. Did it the nice old fashioned way, i didn't hit anyone but i think i had the scary indian aunty look in my eye. I knew it was a good one to learn.

I think the most offensive slur is 'you curry' hahahaha....it's so insulting to be likened to a smelly dish like that.
