Is it sexist or not?
What I've noticed, especially in literature and speeches concerning dress, behavior, and duties are usually directed at the muslimas. Now some of the things I've read were straight out, no room for discussion sexist and the books written by muslim men to "help" give women proper guidance on how to be. I've read others that were useful no doubt, but I hardly see anything for the muslim man on how he should conduct themselves and dress. I mean I know theres literature and some people have done speeches on it, but correct me if I'm wrong, its nothing compared to the number of books and speeches, and even on just a everday basis muslims trying to correct women. Men have guidelines, dress code, and their duties as a husband too but they have not been highlighted. Did anyone else notice that? What are your thoughts? Have anything to add about the subject matter?
Oh I'm going to try that book that was just full of mess on how a muslim wife should be. It looked like something Borat would write.

Re: Is it sexist or not?
It's always possible that men have a little trouble keeping their own thoughts and desires in check, so by coming up with a publication of some sort on how women "should" be they are in their own way reminding themselves of how they should act.

Because men aren't hot.
Muslim women should all wear blue hats.

then why not make a book for the brothers, you may be keeping yourself in check, but its not helping the brothers because the book is direced to women not men.
But dude some of what was written, I can't see it as a way of keeping themselves in check, actually it was like downgradng. I can't find the book. :/ Allah's Will.

Re: Is it sexist or not?
There's a LOT of admonition towards the men in how they should behave and lower their gaze - many books and lectures / speeches are full of this. I'm not sure how you missed it.

It is reflective of the differences between the genders. Men are attracted to women often on the basis of facial and physical beauty, as well as other characteristics like voice, hence the order for men [and women as well] to lower their gaze and for women to refrain from speaking in such a manner that would distract men.
In Islam, there is greater value placed on the chaste behavior of women than on men -a s seen from the fact that its a major sin to accuse a Muslim woman of unchastity, but it is not the same for a man.
Honestly I don't know why people keep objecting to this issue. Its like people are searching for some kind of non-sexist balance whereby men and women are treated in the same uniform manner without any gender bias. The fact is, there will always be gender bias. Men are men, we think and behave differently than women. We're just wired differently, and with good reasons - all of which have not been made privy to humankind.

Re: Is it sexist or not?
oh no no brother, we are different have different guidelines, I understand, and thats fine, I'm not saying we are equal, but I'm talking about the emphasis on correcting on gender than the other.

with that thrid somewhat paragraph where you stated "In Islam, there is greater valueplaced on the chaste behavior of women than on men -a s seen from the fact that its a major sin to accuse a Muslim woman of unchastity, but it is not the same for a man. " Why is that? I mean it appears now (and its true) that more men are behaving more un chaste than women. With this ruling do you think that it as led to the undermining of chaste behavior in men?
I know because I've seen it on countless times, my friends sisters would be shunned for showing some hair or such, but these guys are the same ones who are drinking and clubbing and "trying" to get laid. Now im not saying that its Islam's fault, no, because they have a choice on how they want to behave and they no better, but Im saying the low emphasis well may play a part in them acting less chaste because its like ohhh the attention is not directed at me.
