I hate work
1. Its more about a politics and power game then it is about actual work
2. First impressions are often final.
3. If you screw up once, there may be no redeeming yourself possible.
4. Everyone communicates indirectly because they don't want to be held accountable for what they say and because they don't want to make other people defensive. Indirect communication is often used for put downs and insults that would otherwise come across as hostile (they are still hostile anyways). Indirect communication can be very incisive.
5. If someone has a problem with you, they won't tell you. They will tell your boss.
6. Email lasts forever and can end up anywhere. Never email anything that could make you look bad. Selectively email and rely on face-to-face or phone conversations.
7. Never confide anything in anyone. Chances are, it will circulate around and to your leadership as well.
8. Your co-workers are not your friends. Your co-workers are not your friends. Your co-workers are not your friends.
9. If you don't learn to be selectively honest, you can get burned
10. You should never reveal your insecurities to anyone or they will use those against you and pick at them.
11. People believe what they hear. Image and reputation are everything
12. Your own intuition about how you think others perceive you is likely to be more accurate than what they will tell you about how they perceive you, if you ask them. Its better not to ask, or if you must be judicious. No one will give you a straight answer and if you show that you are insecure, they will take that as fact.
13. Don't count on being given direct or honest feedback.
14. Be aware of the assumptions you are making. As reasonable as they may be, if there is a disconnect between what you're assuming and what your co-workers and leadership are assuming, you can get burned.
15. There is no guarantee that you will be given well-defined tasks and deadlines.

So very, very true. This reminds me of something that happened to me on the job a while ago.
About a year ago, I had just started in my permanent position at my job (I had been a temp for about two years prior).
I was working on a ticket for a lady whose mood would swing so dramatically that I often wondered if I was dealing with the same person. I eventually e-mailed my wife about her, saying "I don't know what this lady's problem is. Every time I deal with her, she's someone different. Today she was jumping down my throat over something so minuscule, only a mental patient would notice. What a horrible person." and hit Send.
It sent.
To the customer.
I checked my Sent folder just to be sure and confirmed, then stared at my screen wondering what possible spin I could put on it to make it work out so I didn't get fired. Then I got an idea.
I jumped out of my chair, and bolted out of my desk (tripping and badly hurting myself on a cart that was in the way) and ran as fast as I could out of one building, through another and into a third, flying up the stairs to her desk. You have never seen such a huge guy move so fast.
So I get to her desk and her screen saver is on. She greets me with all smiles because her mood has changed yet again. I tell her I just wanted to make sure the ticket was resolved before she left for lunch and she logs into her computer and lets me take over. I ask her to look at the old printer, just around the corner. Bam, e-mail. Bam, delete. Bam, empty trash. She was none the wiser.
I tore my elbow up pretty badly when I tripped on the cart. The scar is still there to remind me of that day.

Re: I hate work
I hate work too.
Though, clearly, I don't have much to do at work.
But still, I'm not cut out for the 9-5.
Maybe I should just embrace the patriarchy and become a housewife. Qudsia's doing it.

Re: I hate work
I could become a house daughter. Though my parents wouldn't be too happy about that.
But yeah... I'd have to get married first, of course.

Re: I hate work
Well, she'll get married too, duh!
What're you trying to say? That nobody wants to marry feminists? Huh? Is that it?

Well then you should say "she's going to do it" rather than "she's doing it"
Feminists crack me up sometimes

Re: I hate work
Well, maybe she's planning on doing it, in which case what I said makes perfect sense.
Or maybe she's in the process of doing it. Huh? Huh? Did you think of that?

Yea but that sentence will only work if she's made an announcement first that she's in the process of doing it
