Really nice strangers
so i was really freaked out about my interview this morning. I was thinking about it through my entire commute. I got off my train and was walking through the train station when this old white man said to me "May Allah be with you" and nodded. I wasn't really sure what to say. I said "Thank you" and went on my way.
....should have said "And with you too" or something, but i always think those things later.
I dunno, i didn't feel very freaked out after that. it kinda straightened my head out, figured out my priorities.
he wasn't like a bum or anything cuz he looked like he was going somewhere too.
angel? crazy person? stalker? who knows?
i hope i see him next week during finals.

Yeah, he could have been Bosnian or Syrian. They look fairly white.

I get random people telling me to smile... A lot. I mean, I can't help it if my face looks mean.

Re: Really nice strangers
Lol that's cute [and insane ] sumiyia.
A couple weeks ago, there was this guy who came in with his daughter. I vaguely remembered seeing him and his daughter before that. He came up to the register, I greeted him as I usually do with customers. I began checking his stuff out when out of no where he said something to the effect that he was having a really ****ty day a week or so before and that when he was pulling into the parking lot, he saw me walk past and I smiled at him. He said, my smile made him feel better and he had a brighter attitude for the rest of the day. I was like....wow. I just thought that was really nice and totally unexpected. Who would have figured a smile could change a persons day eh?
And before anyone mentions it, yes I know of the Hadith about smiling.

Re: Really nice strangers
I don't have any stories to tell but I just wanted to post and say that I love nice strangers. They make my day.

Re: Really nice strangers
The other night, a stranger rear ended my car in the parking lot.
As a result, there is a huge dent in my rear bumper. I didn't see any note on my windshield or phone number where I could contact to get compensated for my loss.
That's my experience with strangers.
I live around a lot of minorities so it is expected. Last December, someone broke my window and took my cd stereo. I forgot to take the face off so it was partially my fault. Didn't see any note back then either.

Re: Really nice strangers
Oh..too bad ^
I had a crazy morning a couple of weeks ago. I went to stay down south and the morning I was returning, everything was going soo wrong. I woke up late, I hadn't packed half my stuff, and my train was going to leave. Anyway I had this huge, heavy, luggage trolly, and somehow managed to get into a bus with it. I looked like a mess, and to top it off my eyes started watering. (This happens to me randomly and it's really embarrasing). So this guy standing next to me on the bus sees me, and he probably thought I was crying and running away from somewhere or something, so he helped me with my bag to the train station (which was a good 10 minutes away) and tells me everything will be alright. I was too zoned out to explain anything to him, can't even remember what he looked like. It was so sweet of him though.

Re: Really nice strangers
i dunno if he was Muslim. he pronounced Allah as A-Lah. but could have been a convert i guess.
AmroodWaala, make your own thread for your stranger-hating.
shadha, that dude is so right. smiles totally lift me up. i need to smile more, i always look like im depressed/mad, but i am fine on the inside.
sumiyia, one time, i was trying to park my car at school, running late for class. and it was a weird corner spot. it wasn't even parallel parking. this old man helped me
rawr, maybe he thought you were running away!
you know who i dont get? people who stop on the highway to help you with your flat tire. May Allah reward them unless they're sex offenders.
