Re: Really nice strangers
This didn't happen to me but last summer when I was working at Walgreens in the pharmacy a lady came to pick up her prescription but said she couldn't afford it. So I tried calling other pharmacies to see if I could get it at a cheaper price and do a price match for her. The cheapest I could go down was $40 dollars but that was still too expensive for her so she said she'd have to find the money somehow and come back later. So she left and I helped the next customer in line and he overheard my conversation with the lady and offered to pay for her antibiotics. I called the lady and told her what happened and she was speechless and really grateful for kind people and told me to give him a big thank you next time I saw him. He said he didn't need a thank and was happy to help.

That really is so sweet.
I doubt that I'm suppose to do it but at one of my jobs, if people are short, I either give the remaining or just have my drawer short. I'm not going to deny a person their medicine or their babies diapers. Now if they are short for make-up, then they are just **** out of luck, but for things that are a necessity...I can't deny them of that, unless they are short by a lot and then it's like, sorry.

awww what a nice guy

She handed the cashier her card but Aldi's doesn't take credit and my sister did not know her pin number for the debit card (typical) aaaand she doesn't have any cash on her.
So she steps aside and calls her husband to ask the pin number. He doesn't answer. She tries again. He doesn't answer again. Great, she's going to be embarassed again.
Then she says to the cashier "oh umm...I'm gonna go look for money in my car" when really she's just going to drive away.
The cashier says "don't worry, it's already been taken care of"
And my sister says "what? huuuh?"
"Yeah, that lady paid for it"
The nice lady is already on her way out, and my sister lunges towards her "wait, I'll pay you back, what's your name?"
"Mary

I just hope the lady didn't spend half her pay-check on my sister's groceries. If not, my sister should have gotten the lobster.
sorry if i changed my tenses in the middle.

Most No Frill's and Food Basics stores are starting to accept credit cards now, btw.

I do that sometimes too. I helped pay for a customers prescription before. Sometimes I can't help but feel sorry for them, especially the elderly ladies who are widowed and rely on a fixed income to get by. They come in thinking their prescriptions are going to be the same as last months but when they find out the price has gone up they have such a sad look on their face and one even started crying

Re: Really nice strangers
I picked up a hitch-hiker once, he was a desi guy on Devon Ave in Chicago. I asked him where he needed to go and he pointed down the road and we were on our way... until he explained that he needed to be on that side of town about 45 minutes away. I let him out at the next block.

Yeah something similar happened to me.. for some reason I always have trouble getting carts when they're all pushed together (I'm kind of a weakling shut up ) anyway I stood there pulling on a cart for like two minutes when some guy walked in and pulled one out for me. I was embarassed so I said thank you and started powerwalking

Re: Really nice strangers
I was on the train to Newcastle and at York an old-ish pakistani man got on the train. He was rather lovely...slightly odd but lovely. He showed me pics of his 12 year old daughter (who was beautiful mA) and just gave me some nice advice...telling me about his life experiences and stuff. He lived in Scotland and he told me that if my family ever visited I should give him a call and he'll show us around. He also told me that he would be happy to hook me up with one of his nephews...I never did call him...I was slightly scared of him, although he made the train journey go a lot quicker...
At work, I loved it when older people came in...they're so much fun to talk to...the other day i was outside the super market and generally having a crappy day...on the verge of tears...when this old guy walks past smiles and tips his hat at me, it just made me smile, since he was the first person to acknowledge me (people here refuse to smile back at you )

Re: Really nice strangers
So last night I loaded up my car with books I was planning on selling to this book store by my school. So I get to the store after class and I park and go inside. I asked the lady if they were still taking books, and she said the last day was Friday ( ). So I started to leave and when I get outside, I find that my car's been blocked I still got in and tried to reverse and I hit the stupid ugly taped up piece of crap Cadillac that blocked me in. I thought I had busted one of my tail lights but alhamdulillah nothing happened, it was the noise from that taped up piece of junk. And the funny thing is, the idiot that blocked me in was in the same store as I was, the mother effer saw me waiting outside my car for him to come and move so I can get out
While I was waiting on him to come and move, this man saw me waiting and asked "They got you blocked in, baby?" And I nodded my head. Then he started to go into the stores to see whose Cadillac it was.
