I think they were referring to this link: Islam: Global Message :: View topic - Al Madina Al Munawarah in the future
(allahu-alim)

I'm pretty sure these aren't 'real' plans for Madinah Munawarah. Where are these pictures from?

actually i personally think this plan is much much better then makkah plan, notice how far these tall buildings are from the mosque, this is good. I never supported them building these tall towers just beside masjid al haram in Makkah, i personally dont find anything wrong with this madina plan, they do need more hotels there.

I don't get it.

First of all, its likely that that is only a proposal, and not a finalized expansion plan.

Secondly ... what's wrong with it?

I find the architecture aesthetically pleasing. I like the domes on top of the towers in the last pics.

Whats really wrong with it

Well, even though I've been accused of being a Saudi stooge, I myself wish that the Saudis passed a law that no building can be taller than the mosque. Also, they should get rid of all fast food chains, etc.

Let us all remember that Islam is about reality and practicality.

although i hate the tall buildings surrounding the ka3ba and all, they really do look out of place,

but when it comes to reality, what is a country supposed to do when MILLIONS of ppl come to hajj every year?

you can only build up not sideways. its cheaper and it means that you wont be forcing others out of their homes. yes its hideous, yes we dont like that it takes away attention from the masjid itself, but lets be real, where are you gonna put millions of ppl in a place where there are already almost 2 million people living.

Asalaamualaikum,

I actually like these plans a lot more than i do of Mekkah. The buildings are far away from the masjid and I dont know why...but it seems as if the planners had something of a protective wall in mind for this plan. You have 4 huge buildings on each side as if they were gates entering Madinah and then you have smaller buildings to their sides, still larger than the actual masjid, all alligned almost like a wall. These plans look like they are trying to protect the inside rather than exploit. That's the first thing that came to my mind.

Asalaamualaikum,

-Zahid

yeah bro I noticed the same.

The taller buildings at each of the four entrances are almost like watchtowers.

That and, lets be honest, when you're there, you won't notice the tall buildings anyway. If all you can pay attention to durring your stay is the buildings surrounding the masjid, then you have bigger problems.
