On Islamicans, dishonesty, and being a weasel...

So I've noticed this all over Islamica ... people here don't admit when they are wrong...they never concede an argument.

Why is this? Do people think that it's beyond their capability to simply be wrong? Is there something wrong with being a man and admitting you are wrong about something? Conceding an argument like a man instead of weaseling your way out?

I'll give you an example....so let's say we are debating about what color a certain car is....one person says it's blue, and another says it's red. So the whole thread progresses, and eventually one person brings up the irrefutable proof that it's red.....but the guy who initially said it was blue won't admit he was wrong...instead, he'll shift gears and suddenly move the goal posts....he'll say 'well, you said it was a red car, but it's not a car but really a sports utility vehicle..." And then he'll argue on that angle...so in this way, he moves the topic away from the main point of the debate, without having to admit that he was wrong about the color of the car.

Anyways, I want to know from the audience: do you guys see through this B.S.?

Why do people have SUCH a hard time admitting they are wrong?

Don't these people know that every human being is wrong from time to time?

When we debate, at least be honest ! You can be wrong and honest at the same time. Instead of continuing to debate like a politician or a lawyer, be an honest truth-seeker.

This is just a rant obviously...but I do have a point, which is that when you're wrong, concede the argument. Don't be an Islamican and continue to argue by changing the topic ever so slightly...so instead of debating the color of the car, suddenly you've changed the topic to if it is a sports utility vehicle or not, etc..

I think it's a part of being a man...and of being honest and truthful...of being sincere...and these people who do this are being dishonest and really doing a disservice to themselves, because they think they are avoiding admitting their fault, but in reality, the educated people can see how horribly wrong the person is, and it would be better to man up and admit you were wrong, as opposed to putting a spin on the argument or doing damage control like some politician...

Oh, I'll admit I'm wrong when I'm wrong. I've been wrong before too, back when I was in high school. So if it happened once, it could certainly happen again.
