Is this a civilised way to celebrate ID?
SYED JAFAR ASKARI
KARACHI - The citizens on Tuesday expressed their grave concern over the uncultured way of celebrating the Independence Day, and said that the celebrating of aerial firing and using motorbikes without silencer were not the civilized ways to express patriotic emotions.
In connection with the celebrations of the Independence Day, the citizens of the metropolis, especially the youth, expressed their patriotic emotions through aerial firing and activities of vandalism. The nation has celebrated the 60th Independence Day of the country with full enthusiasm on August 14.
Several rallies of the bike riders belonging to different political organizations of the country were brought out from various localities of the city. The participants of the rallies were ridding on silencer-free motorbikes, making terrible sound in the environment of the metropolis. These rallies caused hurdle in the flow of the city’s traffic. On the other hand the participants of the rallies also vandalized in some over crowded parts of the city.
Aerial firing on the occasion of pleasure, which is in fact a tribal tradition, has got stronger in the city during the last two or three decades. Despite the fact that what are the causes promoting this uncultured trend in the city, the aerial firing has devoured the life of the mother of three children in the city, while seven people were also reported injured on account of the celebrations of the Independence Day.
“The scratching sound of the aerial firing with heavy and small weapons, celebrating on start of the day of August 14, was horrible,” Amir Hussain, a resident of Gulshan-e-Iqbal, told The Nation. He added that the elderly people and children, especially of my family, were really feared while my two years daughter started crying when the aerial firing opened. “I think these celebrators are aliens coming from tribal areas of the upcountry because the citizens did not behave like that. If they are citizens they need to be civilised,” he said.
Touseef Ahmed, a resident of Gulistan-e-Jouhar, slammed the apathetic behaviour of the law enforcement agencies paying no attention to such celebrators who were causing enormous annoyance for the citizens by carrying out aerial firing and bringing out rallies of silencer-free motorbikes. “The pathetic behaviour of such celebrators has claimed one live in the city, while the government is wholly responsible for this loss of human being. It is abstruse to under stand that why the politicians allow their workers to bring out rallies in which participants with their party’s flag use silencer-free motorbikes,” he said.
“Such way of celebrating the Independence Day causing great harm not only for the citizens but also for the system of the city is absolutely unjustified,” a resident of FB Area, Imran, said. He added that there were few people who perpetrated such uncultured and inhuman activities.
On the other hand, the people were also found disorganized at the mausoleum of the Quaid-e-Azam, where thousands of people were gathered to pay tribute to the founder of the country.
