i was visiting this one masjid once and a brother started talking to me about the lack of muslim foster parents. a little later he revealed to me that his own daughter got taken away and he was hoping that she could stay with a muslim family instead of a Christian family. and he kept blaming his evil neighbors for calling the cops on him and getting his daughter taken away.

when i asked why they called the cops, he said, when his daughter (she was like 5 or 6 at the time) wouldnt listen to him, he would take his cigarette and slightly burn her arm!!!! and the guy kept saying how he didnt really burn her but just slightly touched the cigarette on her arm so she would realize she was in trouble. i just kept quiet but in my head i was like, "you sick freak i am glad she got taken away from you."

muslims get into alot of trouble with ACS here for doing stuff like that, but we have organizations that help people understand what is considered child abuse in this country and how to avoid getting your children taken away from you

Stupid parent: I hate when some people dont bother to change their kids diaper straight away when they've pooped, and you have to keep reminding them, even though theyre sitting around doing NOTHING and saying 'I will do it' but trying to find other things to do! Hello, babies poop, it's in their job description!
1) it STINKS
2) they're uncomfortable
3) it's unhygeinic
4) They're gonna get rash .

If you're gonna pretend to be busy at least ask someone else to do instead of letting the kid sit in its own poop!

I also hate it when parents allow their kids to continue screaming and having a tantrum in public. I was on the train from my parents' place coming back home to Glasgow; it's a good 3 hour journey, and there was this couple across the aisle from me, 3 kids all under the age of 7. The youngest girl must have been about 4. Anyway she was obviously bored and fretting and started crying which escalated into a shriek. AND HER PARENTS JUST IGNORED HER! They didn't even pick her up or try to divert her attention, they hadnt brought any books or toys or even crayons and paper to keep her entertained. And 3 hours is a freaking long time for such a little kid to sit still, and her screaming gave me a headache. HOw do such little beings make so much noise?!

Worse than that is, when the kid's upset and crying like a maniac and the parent gets right annoyed/embarrassed and give the child a hard smack for being upset . How is that going to help, they're not going to cry?

Sometimes you get kids who cry all the time for attention, or they are really spoiled. So, a kid starts shreiking becuase you won't give them candy, or won't let them do something dangerous. Then there is the power struggle you get with some kids who don't want to follow the rules, so they start shreiking as if you beat them with a stick, when all you did is tell them "no, you have to stay with me, you can't wander off on your own."

My nephew does that a lot, and he's old. He used to throw himself on the floor kicking and screaming if his mother told him to eat vegetables, or his 30 minutes of computer game time was up. I know another little girl who cries and screams if her mom won't give her candy, and refuses to eat normal food if they don't give her candy first. Of course they always give in, give her candy/soda whatever sugary thing she wants when she cries, reinforcing the bad behavior.

Then there are those poor kids who have to go grocery shopping with their mothers, and unfortunately the only time she could go was durring their nap time, or they are teething. That poor kid is crying, won't stop no matter what mom does, and then all the *****y judgemental old ladies start making comments about "oh, if that was my child I'd make them behave" or "what a horrible mother, that child needs a nap, my children never went shopping at this time" and other people looking at her and making comments about how she must abuse her children for them to cry so much.

So yeah, there are lots of reasons kids cry in public, and lots of reasons why parents apear to discipline their kids for crying.

Of course, I dont disagree with disciplining children . I'm just talking about smacks that are underservedly hard and definitley dont stop the children crying, possibly making them cry even more, so it hasnt really helped that situation.

It depends on the situation and the hardness of the smack. IF the child was crying like a nut solely for attention or throwing a random tantrum, it would probably make them think twice next time. But like you said, there are lots of reasons, and sometimes it's the case that such a hard smack is undeserved. (Well tbh I dont think parents should ever smack that hard but maybe thats another thread altogether).

sometimes, my sister will completely ignore her two year old when she goes into tantrum mode. it's very frustrating, because she will continue to scream and shout for as long as it takes for her to realise that mum's not paying attention and that she won't get her way by misbehaving.

I tried convincing my mother to become a foster mother. I mean, she has nothing better to do. But she won't. She said she doesn't want to take on anyone else's kids. I would, but I am single and live with my parents. What can I possibly give a kid?
I had a similar situation at the mall. This lady comes up to my sister and me and asks if this hispanic-looking kid was with us. He was just wondering the mall like he lived there and he was like 4. We said no, and she went into a store with shoes on clearance. There was the mother and the father. I thought they would get him, but they called his name and went back to the shoes. he stayed in the aisle. I didn't feel comfortable leaving him there, so I sat down and watched him, but I mean, they should have DYFS called on them.

child abuse doesn't differentiate in different countries abuse is abuse.

you'll soon find out I live with my friends baby and he's amazing, he's got a wonderful personality but when he's angry or he's tired or his tummy hurts, he will CRY it's strange how they get so loud and how the sound is enundurable sometimes. But he's also such a smiley baby most of the time, that we can't possibly get angry with him when he's sad.

But yeah, i've seen some silly parents, feeding their children chocolate on the train and then telling them to sit down on their seats It's strange how loads of people just don't realise what they're pumping into their children in terms of food. Very scary.

I've seen loads of people shout at their children if they stand up on the bus and i hate it everytime and they constantly repeat what they say: "SIT DOWN, SIT DOWN, SIT DOWN". The kid probably isn't deaf so if he doesn't want to sit down there's a reason. That reason will have to be defeated to make him sit down, not his will to create that reason. It's just explanatory how people end up building resentment and then go out trying to make everyone follow their own will all because mummy didn't recognise it in the first place. Silly billys.

I don't like to judge parents on how they deal with kids tantrums. It's difficult, i can understand that and maybe just as frustrating for them as it might be for their children.

al 7hamdulilah, recently ive been working closely with our local muslim community. i can tell ya, that ive learned alot in terms of how to/how not to raise children.

Parent # 1: Father, doesn't know anything about his child's health info, asks the child everything, mind you the child was only 10 years old. the father couldnt fill the patient info form on his own. he was asking his child if he had 'allergies' when the receptionist rolled her eyes at him, i asked her to give him the benefit of the doubt that he could be a traveling dad+employee who barely gets to see his family. but then soon i was told he is a patient at the other office, so he is local resident. like big duh!

then i realized, he was the neglectful parent, who did not only know little about his child, but he couldn't control his anxious child either.he threaned the child and used "thappar" and "chuppal parenting style to control his restless, super anxious child. The child was extremely incooperative in all the procedures, he was basically -100 on behavior scale.

Parent#2: Father, knew inside and out about his child. He seemed well mannered gentleman and knew every well now to control his stressed child. 'He actually exchanged words of wisdom with his child and assured him if anyhting goes wrong he would be there for his child' His child was absolutely was also 10 year old boy. this child needed minimum comfort from his father and otherwise he was well behaved, 3+ on a behavior scale.


interest to note: both child went through the same procedure. the latter took 3x longer and gave myself and rest of the staff a headache whereas the latter child was well cooperative.
secondly, its important how parenting style can affect a child's behavior. and yes, stupid people shouldn't have kids!
