guys read FPH- it's just a click away and one of the most active threads on the whole forum. it took me years to come to terms with the name but...meh.

the reality of the internet is such that you need to come to terms with being stalked. where's elysium when you need him/her/it?

Why do you girls make a big deal about Guys reading FPH? You know that guys can't read the Social group, why not post there instead? Problem solved!

Its a public thread. Its known that guys have access to it, but a lot of us guys have absolutely no atom of a desire to go in there or read it [me included]. It has no value whatsoever and isn't worth our time.

I think the only time I went in there like, once or twice, was a few years back when I was like, five years old and a bunch of guys decided to go on a raiding party and mess it up and fling monkey poo in a few girls' faces, just for kicks.

on VB you can make certain sub-forums become invisible except to designated members. If the mods and admins really wanted to keep guys out of FPH, it wouldn't be that hard.

except it is... what's to stop a guy from calling himself a girl? we treat the forum for what it is... public and anonymous.

No it isn't. I've done it before on other forums.

You verify through audiovisual means. The vast majority of active Islamicans on the board already know each other either personally or through mutual contacts.

And if someone can't provide sufficient verification, then tough luck.

that's beyond just vb's features and is not the sort of forum that we run here. if people want to create their own social groups and come up with their own criteria for accepting, that's their perogative. but in an official capacity, that's practically unfeasable on a public forum managed by volunteers.

If the "industry" standard was otherwise, then wouldn't that set the bar as to whether something like that was feasible or not?

Don't get me wrong - I really don't care either way. But in many spheres of life you look at what the prevailing trends are by your peers to judge what any standard should be. And if others who have similar environments and capacities are doing XYZ, then it shouldn't be a question of your capacity to do the same, but rather only the desire of the members / admins to do the same. And if Islamicans don't want it, then yeah okay no problem.

i meant that yes, vb has the custom permissions you're refering to. but the manual screening process (i.e., audiovisual verification) is something else entirely, and it's contrary to the purpose of this forum at least in an administrative capacity.

but we've gone a step further and provided the social groups features, which puts more control in the hands of the users than what you've described, thereby rendering this discussion moot.
