actually he was internally tortured by his experiences as a Canadian solider who saw a lot of tragedies...regardless, i learned to laugh at his "dumb jokes" b/c i thought it was a good investments in raising my marks..getting 1% bonus for sharing a joke or simply grinning at his jokes did not seem like a bad idea....

Re: Miserable people
oh i'm bout to kill some people. mid term misery? your best friend isn't talking to you? those aren't reasons to be miserable! those are reasons to get even! well, to me at the moment.
you need to learn to share your misery with the people who are the causes of it.
but, by the rules of the thread set out by myself, i must not impede your misery and so i say to you, misery accepted *hug with pats on back* 's ok. right on. i have to remind myself that misery has gradations sometimes. and that mid-term misery is only the start of many many miseries to come. ah yes. memories.

You kidding me, if I share my misery with profs. they'll just give a F for furiously ranting to them..then they'll respond by "SUCK it up kiddo" then I " and throw calculators at them for not allowing me to use one"..

Re: Miserable people
ahhh. grasshopper, you have much to learn of the ways of misery. you have yet to master the technique of outward manifestation of abject misery in the face of a professor or teacher. once you can exude the miserability from your very features, honestly and completely, even as you approach the antagonistic professor/teacher, their willpower will waste away and they shall give you an extension, an excuse, or "hey that's ok" for whatever assignment or exam crisis you may be facing.
but the key is, not to fake it. to BE it. then, the power of misery shall be yours.

so, i changed one of my course to calculus recently, and midterm is this thursday.i m still completing the notes and starting to first set of questions..can I ask for extension??? do u think i can pull it off?
whereas she might say, "well u had the option of switching three weeks ago"..
then I would be like "ahh...but i wanted to try my best in last classs where i didnt want to give up so easily...but at last i found that i couldnt cope with the level of difficulty so therefore, i switched"
does that sound like a valid reason?

ahhh. now you've got the ticket. cooking with garam masala! one of my prefered techniques--not of my own choosing of course, for the true seeker, the path chooses THEM--was to not be able to study at all till the night before the insanely hard test/exam/whatever and then study all night all the way UP to the exam, and then even INTO the exam period, usually in the empty room directly NEXT to the exam room, halfway in, cramming as much as I possibly could, and THEN walk in and take the exam.
also, another interesting thing you will notice as time goes on, failing an exam actually does not kill you. and the rush you get from realizing this--after it has all come crashing down and you DIDN'T get that miracle B you were hoping for--is quite a high of its own kind. to have the tidal wave of pressure come crashing down and then, remarkably, insanely, find yourself still somehow standing and alive at the end--albiet with a bad grade or two, but hey--is a feeling of complete ALIVENESS.
the pancakes will taste mighty good that afternoon, i assure you.
also, you do get that miracle B sometimes, which is a nice surprise, too.
the point is, there are many ways to fail. but are you really failing WELL??? mm.
ponder this as you try to get out of that mid-term. and good luck my failing friend.
