Sounds a bit dodgy. I wonder if they have actually tested on people who have HIV subtype A and C, whether these modified env genes actually work.

I think one of the most exciting medical breakthrough of our time would be a cure for global stupidity. You would take the vaccine, put it in powder form and go all Shock and Awe on stupid leaders dumb presidents.

The next huge step in the treatment of this disease will be to make the medications affordable and widely available. They are still essentially "first world" therapy. Through Medicaid even the poor in the U.S. can access HAART therapy, but these medicines are not truly accessible to the impoverished of other countries due to their high cost and the necessity for very regular doses in order to assure efficacy of treatment.

Perhaps if an affordable and effective vaccine is produced this will become a moot point, but until then we have thousands upon thousands of people in other parts of the world who are dying from this disease simply due to lack of access to good healthcare.

Yes, but this is a start. I just hope there's as much emphasis to make it affordable as there is to get it developed.

You can get tested and then you may not have to use condoms. Unless you or your partner are suffering from HIV/AIDS then that's a different story and you can probably discuss alternatives at your local sexual health clinic.

I was referring to more random encounters, like when travelling.

well even when you're travelling you wouldn't actually want the disease because then you could take the injection that's a bit psycho.

It's a vaccine and would be taken before travelling anywhere. Not more psycho than taking a malaria jab.
