Re: The Art of Cooking
Ok, so the parents are coming back next Tuesday. But they're not coming alone. We have these family friends who live a few hours drive from us whose dulhan will be on the same flight as my parents. Which means that when we pick the parents up, the other family will be there too, and knowing my parents, they won’t let them leave without dinner at our place. WHICH means I have major cooking to do, that family is huge, mA, (and so is mine )
On the menu:
-Chicken biryani
-Raita (obviously)
-Karahi gosht
-Karahi chicken
-Gosht kabobs
-2 salads (not sure what types yet)
-I'd like to make a veggie salan (not sure what to make)
-Jumbo shrimps with herb butter sauce.
Should I add/remove anything?

why not replace the karahi chicken with something like tandoori chicken that you can bake?

It's so cute to see Asvi and Sumi in this thread talking about what they cooked for their hubbies and themselves.

Because I'd have to get real close to the chicken and touch it all over the place?
I'm being very, very tolerant just washing it

Re: The Art of Cooking
Turns out the papayas were a gift to my dad from somebody he did something for. Three papayas and a huge case of garlic. Random.
My mom usually gets annoyed with my dad for buying papayas 'cause like I said, nobody eats them. But 'cause they were a gift, we made a serious effort to eat them this time. Me, I had one small piece... don't like papayas. Had a bad experience with one once, and this was the first time after that I ate some. I was seriously scared to try it.
About cooking: umm... my mommy made me an amazing chicken burger today. Alhamdulillah, my mom's awesome.
And my aunt fed me some great palau. She'd invited us to dinner at her place last night and everybody went but me. So I went this morning, haha, to hang out with her... and she was all "Hey, what's up?" and I was all "I'm here for the dinner I missed last night." My mom gave me some garlic to give to her as a gift.
Oh... one time I went to my other aunt's place and I was walking along the street and came across a man selling fruits and veggies. So I decided to buy some pomegranates to give to my phupho and her family (my cousins like pomegranates). And then when I got there, she was like "I bought some from him just yesterday! If you wanted to bring us something, you should have just gotten some cilantro!"

assalamu alaykm
papayas are so dry, no idea how people eat them!
I made carrot, lentil and celery soup last night, twas yummy, even tho i didnt have ginger to add to it.
Tonight: i'm thinking either ricotta and tomatoe lasagne or the libyan pasta dish insha Allah. We shall seeee.

Re: The Art of Cooking
papayas are nasty (to me). i had a bad experience with them when i was a kid; my dad decided he needed to force feed me some and i ended up throwing up. not to mention, when you cut one in half, the seeds look like millions of ugly bugs.

Re: The Art of Cooking
ive decided my IDEAL way of spending time, not to mention the most relaxing EVER, is to have the house to myself..cooking awesome stuff in the kitchen..for the sake of cooking simply...with food tv on in the living room across the kitchen..even tho i cant see the screen from the kitchen
sigh.

Re: The Art of Cooking
ive got somethin in the oven.
it's a test pretty much..i read a few recipes on parmesan encrusted tilapia but wanted to add other ingredients so i took two tilapia fillets
defrosted them
in a bowl, beat one egg
added garlic powder
oregano
parsley (i wasgonna do basil but ran out)
black pepper
then beat some more and added grated parmesan
coated defrosted fish in a whole bunch of lemon juice
dipped it into the egg and cheese mixture
then into bread crumbs
it's tricky, you have to work to kinda stick the mixture on the fish..but it ends up working out with some effort. like it's not self stick by any means..and you absolutely need the mixture on it for taste, duh
and then i put it on a skillet but i realized it wasnt really cooking the fish inside so im broiling it now
it better be good

Re: The Art of Cooking
I made pizza with lots of veggies last night. It was my first attempt and came out pretty decent. Know what changes to make next time .
I want to try cooking fish too sally. I saw this awesome recipe on tv where they rub the fish fillets with all kinds of yummy spices and then saute.
