2) plain pulao (really fancy cooked rice devoid of chicken)
3) curry (pain fried basin pakoras cooked in yogurt cravy)
4) hot wings (but the halal shop hasn't had wings in ages

Assalamu alaykum
Pain (plain?) fried basin pakoras...sounds nice. How do you make them? Pakoras are so damn tasty; As is most asian fried food

Re: The Art of Cooking
Pulao isn't fancy.
Anybody know what you do with papayas? My dad keeps buying them, but nobody eats them. Can I maybe cook them in something?

Eat them raw or they make a great facial mask.

My husband thinks it's fancy. It's rice cooked a really special way so it doesn't stick together, and it smells scrumptious becuase of the spices I add.
You wash the rice 7 times, then soak for 20 minutes
fry an onion, garlic, cumin seeds, black cardomom, whole cloves, and cinnamon stick, drain and then fry the rice with the spices, add boiling water, and steam until done. I think that qualifies as fancy
Plain pakoras: you just make the basin batter a little thick, heat the oil, and drop spoonfulls in the oil. Usually you dip things in the basin batter and fry it, like potatoes or spinich, but in the case you just fry the batter itself. You get these little round dumplings. Then you make the yogurt gravy, and add the dumplings to the gravy. Don't cook it too long, or the dumplings get soggy.

Re: The Art of Cooking
It's fancy if you're a white person who's used to eating bland food.

You wouldn't know a fancy white person food if someone put it in a pie crust, and hit you in the face with it. Desi cooking is MUCH simpler than most of my western cooking. Notice there are no culinary institutes of Desi cooking, whereas it takes YEARS to become a master at French cooking.

HAH!!! I challenge you to cook a whole Thanksgiving dinner, with ALL the trimming, deserts, apetizers etc. to my mom's standards! Oh yes, and every sauce must be full fat, none of this thickening with cornstarch crap. Since you're cooking for MY family, your list must include at least 3 authenic french dishes!

Re: The Art of Cooking
I didn't say it was easy to cook. I said it's BLAND.
Reading comprehension skills anyone?

fancy by definition means hard to cook, or it takes lots of steps. DUH!!!
It's okay, I undertand if you hate white people, and our cooking. I understand. Everyone hates white people these days, even other white people. It's fine, really. I'll forgive you for hating our freedoms and way of life. I'm cool with it. Really. I swear.

All this time, I really thought that desi cooking was the hardest in the world.....guess not. But thats good news for me, it means that I can actually master the skills!!
Pulao comes in between of rice and biryani, so its a little bit fancy but not by much. I only eat it when I feel like it, because I don't have much appetite for it.......it doesn't taste bland, it tastes plain to me

No, pulao is fancy to you 'cause of all the spices and stuff which you don't put in your regular Uncle Ben's or whatever.
I do hate white people. And everything about them.
Okay, should stop derailing this thread now.
Give me papaya recipes, people. Nobody in my family eats them raw, me included. I'll look into facial masks.
