Re: The Art of Cooking
you might want to mix 3/4 cup of butter and substitute 1/4 something else (what would that be?)
because the crust was tooo buttery (even though it is called butterfinger lol)
Butter Finger Dessert Bars
1 Cup butter or margarine, softened
2 Cups flour
1/4 tsp. salt
2 tsp. sugar
4 eggs, beaten
2 Cups pecans
2 Cups brown sugar
1/4 Cup flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 Cup shredded coconut
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mix butter or margarine, 2 Cups flour, salt and sugar until crumbly. Press into a 9x13 inch pan. Bake in preheated oven 10-15 minutes at 375º
Mix eggs, pecans, brown sugar, 1/4 Cup flour, baking powder and coconut together. Spread over cooked pastry. Bake 15 minutes at 375º
Cool before icing
Icing
3 Cups powdered sugar
6 Tbsp. butter or margarine
2 to 3 Tbsp. milk or cream
2 tsp. vanilla
Combine all ingredients and mix well. Frost and cut into 1" bars

Re: The Art of Cooking
ABCDGIRL: My first dinner party for 6 families:
Gosht biryani, raita, spicy fried chicken, and aloo and puri...and butterfinger dessert bars. We wantedto keep it simple as this was my first dinner party and alhamdullilah everyone loved the food.
AWWWWWW!! The food looks delicious! I would have killed it.
See, I'm nervous about this Saturday because it'll be our first time showing up at a house as a couple. Before, we'd go along with my family, so whatever my mom made kinda extended to us too. But now since we're showing up after my parents [I have to work], we have to bring a dish.
I am nervous about bringing a dish over, but I am so excited to host dinners! Strange eh.

yea it was really hard and tiring...one of my friends actually called the next day to ask if i recuperated from all the work lol
main thing i was worried about was if there was enough food for everyone..but there was more than enough, so everyone took home leftovers
next time iA i want to make a good khorma, a light rice dish like pulao
samosas, kabobs, and cake or something for dessert.
btw i think you should make one of your yummy desserts

haha yeah I think its true for lots of couples. Just out of curiosity how many couples on here wait for their spouse to come home and then eat together? My parents are supercute mA they never eat without one another...my mom won't even eat with us because she wants to wait for my dad, even after 25 years of marriage, alh. Personally, I think its adorable and would wait for my husband to get home so we can eat together

asslaamu alaykum
And other things. Like cleaning, and dusting..and flower arranging.
I cooked with these super big shell pasta pieces, and fresh basil and mushrooms and tomatoes, was delicious. Tomorrow...stuffed peppers insha Allah.
edit: no one likes to eat alone. Unless it's at night sneaking the last Krispy Kreme

Today I made salmon with a spicy sauce. I just used stuff I had at home. I thought it was good but not great (I'm not a fan of salmon) but my parents absolutely loved it and finished it all.
Spicy Salmon
Marinate one large fillet with:
2 teas olive oil
1 teas garlic ginger paste
salt
black pepper
dash of cayenne
Mince:
1 large clove garlic
1 long green chili
1 tbspn fresh thyme
other ingredients:
1 tblsn butter
1 teas orange zest (I was making biscotti and had some extra zest so used it here)
1 teas lime juice
1 teas red chili flakes
Heat a tabspn of olive oil in pan, add garlic and chili, stir on low for a minute. Add salmon, cook for a few minutes on each side. Add salt, pepper, red chili flakes, butter, thyme, orange zest, lime. Cook for a few minutes til everything combines.

Re: The Art of Cooking
ABCDGirl, hehehe awwww. Well inspired by your sweet comment, , I decided to make a trifle. I have never made one before [which is a total shock considering that combo of food is my absolute favorite] but to make it a bit unique, I'm going to top it with chocolate covered strawberries. I'll be sure to post pictures and the responses. Hopefully it'll be good.
