Green biryani is when you use green ingredients, mostly fresh coriander and green chillies. I put some yoghurt inside as well and made it with chicken and potatoes. Smells good so far.

ooh, we do that with fish biryani! make a puree of cilantro/coriander, cumin, green chilies, garlic, ginger, bay leaves and a bit of haldi. fry that in the heated oil until fragrant and then stir in yogurt, then add the meat? is it that method or something else?

INGREDIENTS
* 6 cups grated carrots
* 1 cup brown sugar
* 1 cup raisins
* 4 eggs
* 1 1/2 cups white sugar
* 1 cup vegetable oil
* 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
* 1 cup crushed pineapple, drained
* 3 cups all-purpose flour
* 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
* 1 teaspoon salt
* 4 teaspoons ground cinnamon
* 1 cup chopped walnuts (more, if you'd like to decorate the sides of the cake with them)
DIRECTIONS
1. In a medium bowl, combine grated carrots and brown sugar. Set aside for 60 minutes, then stir in raisins.
2. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour two 10 inch cake pans.
3. In a large bowl, beat eggs until light. Gradually beat in the white sugar, oil and vanilla. Stir in the pineapple. Combine the flour, baking soda, salt and cinnamon, stir into the wet mixture until absorbed. Finally stir in the carrot mixture and the walnuts. Pour evenly into the prepared pans.
4. Bake for 45 to 50 minutes in the preheated oven, until cake tests done with a toothpick. Cool for 10 minutes before removing from pan. When completely cooled, frost with cream cheese frosting.

my mods:
- drain the carrots after they've been sitting in the brown sugar for an hour
- i didn't use raisin cuz i think they're kinda gross
- add the juice from the crushed pineapple, but save about a tablespoon to put in the frosting
- i cooked these in THREE 8-in cake tins, rather than two 10-inch.
- after the cakes are cooked and cooled, make sure they're flat across the top by cutting off the curve from the top.i thought the cake could use just a LITTLE bit more moisture, so i popped open a can of pineapple juice and brushed a little bit (not even a tablespoon per cake) across the top of each cake.
- this si the recipe i used for frosting:
Quote:
*8 oz cream cheese
* (1/2) cup butter
* 1-2 tsp vanilla
* 1 tablespoon pineapple juice
* ~3 cups powdered sugar (however much it takes to get to the right consistency)

Re: The Art of Cooking
I might make gagar ka halwa for Eid. I also have to finish grading my students' final exams and submit the grades, so does anyone have a relatively quick and foolproof recipe?
Thanks!
Laimuun, when we're in moods like that, I usually tend to make fish with a steamed veggie on the side. I figure that if we don't care that much, it might as well be healthy!

Yeah, but it should be good too. Plus, a recipe is more than a list of ingredients! More ingredients isn't what makes a desi recipe complicated, but the preparation. Anyway, I found a couple of actual recipes online so I'll combine a couple and call it a day.

 Well, that was good.
(Actually, I wouldn't know, because I don't eat the stuff, but my mom and grandma said it was.)
I was half-kidding, but it really is that simple.
But good luck!
