i dont know how to cook. my mom knows how to cook. i use recipes. my mom doenst.
i dont know if i will ever reach her level
for the dosa i soaked 3 cups rice- adolphus- + 1 cup of mash ki dal. soak that over night..then grind to a smooth paste. laddle out one cup of batter on a pan and make it into a thin, round shape (duh) ...like pancakes.
btw the peanut chutney is soo good..i ate it by itself as well..you use equal parts channa dal and peanuts, whole dried red chilies, green chili, curry leaves, haldi, garlic, salt, and rye fried in a little oil in the end after you grind everything up.

maybe my tastebuds are going crazy. i think they really might be. there's something wrong with my smell and taste senses. because ive been feeling congested on a constant basis.
WHATEVER. i feel like a failure at cooking lately. im not as good as i believed i was. and im panicking about not learning to cook right ever. because it is very important to me

are you using fresh spinach or frozen spinach? because frozen spinach is vile and disgusting.
anyway try putting the spinach in a skillet with onions and butter and season it before you actually make your omlette.

maybe it's because the feta is very strong. do you use fresh or frozen spinach? i would imagine that the frozen would taste stronger because it's more condensed.
being congested/having a cold definitely throws off your sense of taste, because smelling food is such a big part of tasting it.
if you really really really like food, you'll learn to cook. and you probably already know a lot of stuff so it's just a matter of exposing yourself to all different kinds of foods and techniques. go read cookbooks! (really; they're awesome).

Re: The Art of Cooking
thanks ABCDEFGHIJKL
i used fresh spinach..
and yeah, i need to read cookbooks. thanks yall i reallly learn from you guys btw. :cheesy:
i want to better my presentation skillz. insha'Allah gonna take some cooking/cake decorating classes
and tariq, cleaning is easy.. most people know how to clean..but it's a matter of laziness for them. cooking can also be done lazily; it can never be perfected though. the world of foods, cooking styles and presentation is huge...HUGE.
so yeah sure i can do those things to get by, but i want to become better.
im gonna check out a million cookbooks from the library tomorrow.

Re: The Art of Cooking
Presentation is important but it means nothing if the food doesn't taste as good as it looks.

Re: The Art of Cooking
i thought this was kind of a cool concept (though i haven't really tried it out that well myself):
FOODPAIRING
you basically pick an ingredient and it'll tell you good foods/flavors to pair with it

Re: The Art of Cooking
I made creamy chicken khorma yesterday ..thats probably the only salan i can make without looking at a recipe lol
10- 12 chicken pieces
3/4 cup of yogurt
1 tsp haldi
1 tsp red chili powder- or less however spicy you like it
2 or 3 green chilies chopped- the small ones
1 1/2 tsp coriander powder
1 1/2 tsp cumin powder
1 tsp garam masala
1 medium onion chopped
1/2 cup chopped cilantro
2 medium potatoes cut into small cubes
ginger/garlic paste
1/2 tablespoon oil or less
7 almonds + 1/2 tablespoon coconut- finely ground
add the chopped onion in heated oil and saute them for a few minutes. Add ginger and garlic paste and continue sauteing until the onions become translucent. throw in the chopped chilies. add chicken and fry for a few minutes. add haldi, red chili powder, and salt and fry for a few more minutes. add 1/4 cup of cilantro and keep frying..add a little water to prevent it from sticking. get yogurt and mix it with cumin, coriander, garam masala, almond and coconut and add it. add potatoes. mix well. add 1 cup of water. cover. let it cook for 15 minutes. add rest of the cilantro and more salt if need be. add more water if necessary. let it cook until potatoe and chicken are done.
the almond and coconut really make a difference

Re: The Art of Cooking
Every time i decide i'm going to cook, i call my mom up for recipes. So, anywho.. two days ago i was making Tamater Gosht and it was looking really good and smelled good too..but later on, i burned the onions cuz of my stupidity that i started doing something else. So the onions were all burnt and the entire apartment smelled really bad and i was like watever cuz i was sorta pissed at my self and put the entire pot in the fridge. So yesterday when i was calm..i called up my mom to ask her if i can reuse the meat, cuz i felt bad throwing away and she said i could reuse the meat only if i have washed it properly.
So yea, i've never burnt food and now i have which really sucks.. *sigh* i guess there is a first time for everything.
Update: i wasn't able to reuse the same meat, so i threw it out and started all over again and it turned out grreat ! yaay

And it tastes better than it looks! It's a dessert made with jello, cake, custard, whipped cream, fruit, and whatever else u wanna put in it. The ones I made consisted of home made cake at the bottom, strawberry jello in the middle and mixed fruit custard at the top. I decorated it with crushed lemon | |
