Re: The Art of Cooking
I cooked an afghani eggplant dish and despite all the "what are you cooking now? " remarks (I always get that when I try something new ), it came out really good! Alhamdulillah...IN YO' FACE, PUNKS!

Re: The Art of Cooking
asvi, that all looks soooo yummy, i might do mexican tomorrow!! i <3 cheese!
so i finally tried out nargisi koftay (whole boiled eggs wrapped in meatballs) tonight, and it was pretty good. i made a lot of normal koftay too (to freeze and keep it ziplock bags for quick dinners during ramadan). i thought it would be more complicated to wrap the meat mixture outside of the eggs, but it wasn't too bad, just takes some patience to get the mixture evenly around the egg. anyway since it wasn't sure how they'd turn out, i only made three, but my husband loved them, so i will definitely be making these again. had them with sliced tomatoes with black pepper, salt, lemon juice and yogurt on the side.

Re: The Art of Cooking
I made this last night from the "Moosewood Cooks at Home" I stole from my sister So tasty Anyone else have any moosewood cookbooks? Most of the things I find in them are quite delicious. Sadly however, apparently the restaurant doesn't live up to the hype. My sister went last summer and was very disapointed.
North African Cauliflower Soup Recipe | Recipezaar
Ingredients
2 1/2 cups chopped onions
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
2 cups diced potatoes
5 cups chopped cauliflower - I just used one medium head
2 teaspoons ground cumin
1 1/2 teaspoons ground fennel
4 cups hot water
2 vegetable bouillon cubes
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
salt & freshly ground black pepper
chopped tomatoes and chives
Directions
1. In a large Dutch oven or saucepan, saute onions in vegetable oil for 5 to 10 minutes, or until translucent.
2. Add the potatoes, cumin, and fennel; cook for 1 minute.
3. Add the hot water; cover, turn up the heat and bring to a boil.
4. Add the cauliflower and bouillon cubes and return to a boil.
5. Lower the heat and simmer, covered, for 10 minutes or until the vetetables are tender.
6. In a blender, puree and vegetable/broth mixture until smooth.
7. Add lemon juice, salt, and pepper to taste.
8. Reheat the soup, being careful not to scorch it.
9. Serve warm; garnish with chopped tomatoes and chives.

Anyone else a farmer's market buff? We have one here downtown every thursday. While there are a few very unfarmers market like things (like the people who import fruit, ), for the most part, it's locally grown. Last week, I got cauliflower, zucchini, eggplant and green onions. I can't wait to see what they have this Thursday

Re: The Art of Cooking
Onetspvanilla, those kofta look great! I don't think I'll try the fancy ones, but I could do the regular ones. Do you have a recipe?
Rahma, I agree that the Moosewood restaurant doesn't live up to the hype. There are better restaurants in Ithaca. I also love going to farmer's markets and am going to get some eggplant this week to make that recipe

Asalamu Alaikum,
That looks super yummy and pretty! Usually its so hard to arrange desi food into an aesthetically pleasing arrangement.
