Anyways, I'm going to hit the weights today and a little cardio after that, insh'Allah. Workouts don't feel the same without cardio.

Weird. Did you find out what kind it was? Oh, and what are you going into?

Recent is like last two months or so. And like I said, the symptom survey has to be positive.

Obviously if I think she can get a better deal on headphones im going to tell her about it and I even offered to give her one. My father was a former wholesale seller and included in his merchandise were headphones pretty similiar to those. A box of them cost $50.00 not a single which is why I said she could get them cheaper at a flea market (.80 cents was an over exaggeration)

My husband doesn't seem to like many things besides bball or roller hockey. I only like roller hockey and I sometimes have trouble coming up with other ideas where we can have fun and lose weight at the same time.
Suggestions?

Re: Health and Fitness Thread
well i figured out how many calories i actually need per day and noticed i was eating much more than that. so i lowered my calorie intake, along with fat, sodium and added sugars. i also just tried to eat a balanced diet. i hardly ate fruits and veggies (besides desi vegetarian dishes which are not really all that healthy). so i increased my fruit and veggie intake (carrying around a fruit instead of a sugary granola bar to snack on, juicing carrots and apples and making smoothies). also, whenever we had ice cream or cookies or something, i'd stop myself after 1 scoop or 1 cookie. i was already eating wheat in place of white everywhere (pita bread, sandwich breads, pastas, etc). started eating more fish and preparing my foods differently (less frying, more baking/grilling w/o oil) and using more lean meat. and also made sure i drank enough water every day. one thing i noticed was that before, i'd eat until i actually felt full. now i stop eating after i have the right portion size and within 15 minutes i start to feel full.
that's all i did the first 2-3 weeks and then i added exercise in slowly. started the couch to 5k plan. and now i'm working on adding in your dvd ( ) on the days that i'm not running. i'm also walking more and driving less since i'm taking the trolley. before i'd park right next to campus and not have any walking. now i have to walk at least half a mile to get to campus from the trolley station. and i'm also planning on going hiking at least once a week. i want to take advantage of living right next to the hiking trail. and there's three different trails on the mountain (beginner, intermediate, and advanced) so hopefully i'll hike enough to be able to do the advanced without passing out
i really am trying to aim for a lifestyle change though so i'm not doing a crazy no-carb diet or anything. my brother in law did the no-carb diet few months ago. he went almost a whole month without any carbs, and he lost like 40 lbs. but a no-carb thing really isn't realistic in the long run. you can't cut them out of your life forever, so of course he started eating carbs again and eventually gained back all the weight he lost.

Re: Health and Fitness Thread
Alrighty!
5 lbs gone, and so far my total weight loss is 15 lbs over a few months which I think is a fairly healthy amount- given I didn't take any drastic measures. I basically just rid the junk from my daily diet, ate when hungry, and worked out some. I cheated like hell last week though, but it didn't seem to make too much of a difference overall.
displaced: 2 mins of holding a plank is great, mA! How long have you been doing them? I think I'm going to start too, will update as soon as a I reach a time which isn't too embarrassing to mention
And happy working out, people!

Good job you guys! I did Shape's Bun and Thigh workout today. I found it in the On Demand section of my cable lineup. There are a number of good (free) workouts there, so check it out if you have that service.

Re: Health and Fitness Thread
i literally eat breakfast in the car on my way to work, which usually means it's like a granola bar or something.
lately i've switched to yogurt container and a banana (or other fruit), but i get soooo hungry like 2 hours later and CAN'T snack while at work (i work in a lab -- no food allowed).
suggestions? i have a wheat sensitivity so nothing with wheat (ie, no oatmeal) in it, please! i'd like to keep bfast under 300 cal i'd be willing to try to wake up a bit earlier to make something...

i dunno..i think 300 or under 300 is way less for breakfast. ideally your biggest meal should be either breakfast or after a work out.
cuz your breakfast really determines how hungry you get through the day..if you increase it by even a 100 cals, you'll be amazed at your appetite through the remainder of the day
but i dont know if youre following a diet plan or something of that nature.
omelettes are really good and filling..one yolk, 3-4 whites, throw in some chopped veggies, low fat shredded provolone or feta cheese (because they have tons of flavor in little amounts as opposed to mozeralla which you need a good bit of for flavor) and fry in olive oil or cooking spray
you can also eat bird food type cereal with berries..those really high protein cereals. they take a little getting used to though
if youre in a hurry in the morning the best thing you can do is make a protein shake...water/milk + protein powder + berries or nat. peanut butter tbsp or any other fruit etc.
i read this study about how apparently, whey protein is like magic because of the way it fills people up. one group was given various foods for a meal, the other a protein shake. but the caloric content was equal whether it was the foods or shake. the people who drank the shake though felt fuller longer..twas kinda neat. something about how the liquid takes up lots of space in your stomach cuz its so vast
anyways about the working in the lab thing, props. i couldnt work anywhere i wasnt allowed to eat..i mean i havent ever worked at a lab or anything but ive worked in places i was not allowed to eat but i still ate.
how soon can you get time out to eat something? like cant you excuse yourself and be like i need to go to the bathroom or my car to get something and eat?

Re: Health and Fitness Thread
assalamu alaykum
but whey powder tastes disgusting?! the husband accidently ordered a smoothie with whey powder and i tasted it and he's used to it, though.
i've been doing stomach crunches for a week or so and it's done what i wanted so i'll keep them up so i can eat burger king . Tried to skip but that didn't really work out so I really want to get to toys r us to get my hula hoop!
