So far they are working.
I usually hop on an exercise bike for 20- 30 mins becuase its too hot to run. Insha'Allah soon i'll get access to a gym.

Okay, so I beat my goal today

A mile and a half in ten minutes on level ground. Actually I did it almost without breaking a sweat, I don't know why it was so hard when I did it all those years ago. I guess the lower speeds with high incline intervals really pushes your cardio up there quick. Thanks for everyone who gave me advice.

So I guess my question now is... what next? I figure I'll keep my 7:30 pace and start working in increasingly challenging inclines. And I'll do a long endurance run every so often too.

Hey man, I didn't catch if you mentioned you were using resistance bands or not... if not, you should consider checking them out.

At first I was skeptical, I thought they were like toys or something. But I'm seriously thinking of getting a set for when I'm travelling. I've tried them out at the gym and they ain't bad.

Good for you! Now I think you should work on extending it - perhaps a 5k at that pace would be a good goal.

So after training 5-6 days a week for 5 months for seemingly nought, I took a break.

Subsequently I got faaaat. To get back on the horse I've decided to push myself and lose 10lbs in the next 2 weeks.

Anyone care to join me?
Hey bro........

Man that sucks. Hopefully you'll get another fight soon (are you a boxer or a thai boxer?).

Anyways, just wanted to hop in and say that it's great you want to set a pretty aggressive goal but 10lbs in two weeks isn't too wise. I know as a fighter you're probably use to cutting weight pretty often....I'm also sure you know that the weight lost when cutting on short notice is mostly water.

If you set a goal to lose 10lbs of fat in 2 weeks you're setting yourself up for failure. To be sure you can lose 10lbs but you would probably lose quite a bit of muscle along with the fat. That's no good. Aim to lose about 1.5-2lbs of fat a week and you will come out leaner and much more muscular looking. Yeah it'll take you a few more weeks to get to your goal but the overall result will be a lot better.....especially the lower your bodyfat percentage gets.

Either way.....good luck reaching your goal.

and ive said this so many times, but it's always a good reminder..never go by scale weight, ESPECIALLY during the first 6 weeks of becoming a consistent/regular work-er outter.

it's only disheartening because youre totally losing weight but the muscle/water changes are messing with the numbers

the best way to measure your progress is using a measuring tape and following the proper measuring guidelines..for example i was just telling someone, if you measure your hips wiht legs too far apart youre measuring them wider..so theres a whole science of measuring so to speak..theres a few helpful charts online i can find for you iA

also AIM me, we'll talk more dont be disheartened..just keep it up. use a pair of pants that previously didnt fit too well to track your p rogress.
Thanks Sally ! I will write down the names of the machines and let you know, iA. I definitely will be hitting you up on aim .

That's the thing Revert, I've given up a lot of my favorite things. I've started eating more fruits, vegetables, and drinking lots of water. I could easily drink more than 8 glasses of water a day when I was in school, but now that I'm at home, its so hard. Heh. I've started eating breakfast within 30 minutes of waking up. When I go out with friends, which is almost once a week (and usually all we do is eat), I always get a dish with someone and split it to help control my portions. I've limited my carbs - avoiding white bread and some pastas. I just don't know what else to do...

How often do you workout? What kinds of fats do you eat? You should introduce some Omega 3's into your diet they help with weight loss. Also try eating smaller meals more often.

Whats helped me is cutting out ALL junk/soda/fatty foods. Eating only lean meats/fish. I've limited my carbs to simple carbs. I do at least 15 mins of cardio everyday, then do some kind of resitance/calesthetics 3 times a week.

im thinking about buying this dvd set called core rhythms. its supposed to be latin dance inspired cardio and abs. i like that you can change the settings on the dvd to the back view so it seems like youre actually in an aerobics class. Core Rhythms Home

if i can find it cheaper on ebay or something im gonna get it.

im such a sucker for infomercials
