You don't have to go to the gym to work out. YOu can find some simple fat busting exercises on the web. Watch what you eat cut the fatty foods and sugary foods and cut out sugary drinks, eat whole wheat bread..its made such a difference to me and my wifes energy and weight.

You should totally look into making Breakfast your biggest meal too...that helps a lot. Having a serving of ice cream every now and than as a reward will be fine as long as you work out enough to burn off the calories.
Good advice, thank you . I've already started switching over to only wheat bread alhamdulillah but I can't seem to cut my addiction to orange juice! I try to buy the 100% juice kind from Florida's Natural brand...dunno how much healthier that is. I also don't put sugar in tea anymore, only honey. I also have a serious addiction to mango juice, dried mango, mango ice cream etc but I'm workin' on it! I've found that not only does sugar make me gain weight, but it makes me break out .

I think tonight I am gonna take your advice and go for a walk...as soon as I wake up from much-needed nap after my all-nighter. Inshallah. Hopefully the rain clears up by then. By the way, at what pace does a walk become "working out" as opposed to just a leisurely stroll? This is probly a dumb question but I have to break a sweat right?

To achieve cardiovascular benefits, you can use two rough guidelines:

1) The 'breath sound check': this represents the bare minimum amount of exertion required. You should be exercising hard enough to hear yourself breathing.

2) The 'talk test' can be use as the uppermost limit of physical exertion. If you're at the point where your exercising so hard that you would be completely unable to carry out a conversation, you're going overboard. At this point, your body is no longer exercising aerobically, but relying on anaerobic metabolism to supply energy, which means that past this point, the amount of cardiovascular benefits acheived would be little. Besides, at this pace, you can only workout for so long before you're exhausted anyway...

When I buy stuff now I always look at the nutritional information on the back. I don't drink Juice only Water and Gatorade. When looking for wheat bread try and find somehting that doesn't contain High Fructose Corn Syrup. Arnolds has a good 100% whole Wheat with No Corn Syrup.

As for walking Bravo's post is a good indication..you should walk for at least 30 mins and get your heart pumping. Also invest in an inexpensive pedometer that counts steps and miles walked. Its very helpful to understand how far you are walking. 8-10,000 steps a day is enough to help with weight loss. Wear it at work/school etc and wear it when you walk.

Oh yeah, have to concur with Revert on the beverages here. Cutting out soft drinks, and juices entirely will really go a long way towards getting rid of excess calories. High Fructose Corn Syrup = the devil. Try replacing fruit juices with actual fruit. Oranges contain more fiber and less calories than actual orange juice, even if it is 100% pure. If you really like your beverages to have some flavour, you could also squeeze a lemon into your glass of water, or take fruit juice, and dilute it a lot with more water.

When looking for running shoes, it might be a good idea to keep the following article in mind. Some of the conventional beliefs we hold regarding running shoes are called into question in light of recent studies.

I did a 5 minute treadmill warm up, 25 minutes of working through different weight machines, 30 minutes of the elliptical, another 30 on the arc trainer and a 7 minute cool down on the treadmill followed by some stretching.

I haven't lost any weight. I want to cry .

Whats your diet like? Don't under-estimate the weight of the muscles.

5 mile run in the early afternoon
1 hr of yoga class at 7..i went after 2 weeks..and i could FEEL myself letting go of so much tension because i havent been doing yoga..its unbelievable.
then half an hr of lower body

all sets 8-10 reps
4 sets barbell squats
3 sets leg extensions
3 sets dumbbell deadlifts
3 sets (each side) weighted lunges
3 sets lying leg curls
3 abduction

i was running late so ditched 6 sets of weighted calf raises.

tell me what kind of weight machines youre using and what parts youre working

i could possibly put together a few weighted work outs for you

and ive said this so many times, but it's always a good reminder..never go by scale weight, ESPECIALLY during the first 6 weeks of becoming a consistent/regular work-er outter.

it's only disheartening because youre totally losing weight but the muscle/water changes are messing with the numbers

the best way to measure your progress is using a measuring tape and following the proper measuring guidelines..for example i was just telling someone, if you measure your hips wiht legs too far apart youre measuring them wider..so theres a whole science of measuring so to speak..theres a few helpful charts online i can find for you iA

also AIM me, we'll talk more dont be disheartened..just keep it up. use a pair of pants that previously didnt fit too well to track your p rogress.

thanks for the tips bravo and revert

i will be cutting out high fructose corn syrup inshallah and getting rid of the orange juice (after I finish off the last of it ). I dont really like eating oranges so instead I want to get an orange juicer like my mom used to have when we were little. She'd squeeze fresh orange juice every morning and it was soooo good

btw I never expected BREAD to have high fructose corn syrup, how retarded
