I only say so, because I find when I work out with less food, I lose more than I would've if I just laid low and ate.

If I don't exercise, I lose my base. I've been trying to train for a spring half marathon for several years now, but I quit running during ramadan, and lose all my base. It's too hard to work it back up to a respectable level by then.
Plus, I'd lose some of my pretty pretty muscles

It had this "T" shape thing which you pull. Anyway, I pulled it and it fell back fast on my head and ear.

Re: Health and Fitness Thread
man that sounds painful DR, alh ur okay
I wouldn't work out during Ramadan, I already lose so much weight from fasting. Plus with tests, papers etc still on during Ramadan (cant they give us a break? ), having to walk to class, carry books etc etc I don't think I will have energy or time to work out in Ramadan.
I jumped on the trampoline like crazy yesterday when I went home. It's such a good workout if you do it right

I didn't work out today. I either have allergies or a cold... or something. So I bought anti-histamine, vitamins and just took a shower and stared at the weights. Ugh. Fingers crossed I'll be back in there tomorrow.

I do use freeweights
Today the EZ bar was enraging me... the clamps take forever to get on and off between sets.
I noticed on the bike though that I had to up the level just to get my heart up to mid-150's! So glad to see improvement already. C'mon sally I'm telling you those heart rate things are solid. They don't let you cheat.

And how are you supposed to use free weights with your legs? Anyway, I did do some free weights after doing the machines. My arms/shoulders really, really hurt .

Re: Health and Fitness Thread
Cycling in heavy wind gives you legs any body builder would envy
P.S Annoying people with bicycle stories is really fun

Bicycle crunches (doesn't involve bikes ). You start with your feet like this and arms behind your head. Extend one leg out like this and bring the elbow from the same side to touch the opposite knee (which is the bent one). Repeat with the other side and remember to breathe! Your head stays off the ground and so do your legs, it's not like regular crunches. These HURT like crazy after you do a few sets but it's a good hurt cuz you can feeeel the flab being burned off
Also, planks hurt like a batch. My sister has difficulty toning her stomach and after she did like 7 planks a day for a week she saw a major difference. Hold as long as you can, take a 2 second break and go back into another plank...repeat until you feel like dying. The ideal amount of time to hold the plank for beginners is 30 - 60 seconds for each plank. And you have to keep your back straight..prevent your hips from sagging or your butt from pointing in the air.
Plank #1 (for weak wrists). Plank #2.
EDIT: like dreamdeferred said, exercise is important too. If I did 100 crunches twice a day starting right now I would get nowhere because I need to lose about 7 or 8 pounds for the toned muscles to show. Which reminds me, I'm all dressed for the gym so I better get going. :lazy:

Alright guys.......I was just giving you hard time lol. DramaRani.......Rahma nailed it, squats are an incredibly effective exercise. Not much fun mind you but effective.....infact I think it might be the most productive exercise ever. Lunges are pretty fantastic too.

Hater! Cycling is cool but it's no good for changing your body composition significantly.

Sister......."toning" via exercise is a fairy tale. The only way to get the results you want is to embark on a fat loss program that combines careful attention to nutrition (achieving a calorie deficit), cardio and weightlifting. Depending on where you're at healthwise you can also get some good results incorporating yoga/pilates as well.
When I get home later tonight I'll point you in the direction of some resources that will be helpful insh,Allah.
