Re: Health and Fitness Thread
my ramadan workout schedule gets messed up too, partly because of the timing of things but also because there is always this sense of guilt that the month is short and by not using all the time in more productive activities, i'm not making full use of it. so I tend to put off the exercising and figure i'll make it up once the month is over as the feeling and atmosphere during those last ten days is beyond any high I could ever hope to achieve while running.

Re: Health and Fitness Thread
im volunteering at a summer fitness camp for girls ages 9-14 starting this july! its a program for more than average weight girls to come and learn how to live a healthier lifestyle by learning how they can eat a balanced, healthy diet and cook healthy foods (we cook together once a week in the campus kitchen) and ways to get cardio done as well and play sportss and then relaxation and how to live a positive lifestyle built around self esteem and positive thinking about their self-image. they'll each have a goal to lose at LEAST 8 pounds within the month of the summer camp and they get belts tied to their waists all day to measure their activity which gets recorded in a daily log and a report is sent home at the end of the week. its pretty exciting, we had our first meeting today and im totally excited about meeting the girls in 2 weeks and starting the excercises with them and what not. inshallah, this'll help me get back into shape too! i took up running again but i havent ran for 3 straight days now or done any sort of activity besides the walk i did today from my car to the classroom.

Re: Health and Fitness Thread
Hey this guy is pretty cool.... (caution ladies, he's not wearing a shirt)
YouTube - Back and Lateral Pulldown workout.
I was cruising around looking for tips on lat pulldowns, and found it. It's not so much about the workout, I like his policy on counting reps... or not counting them rather. It's always been something I've thought about, but it was cool to actually hear someone mention it out loud.
Today I did some serious shoulders, though I find my left one hurts but only when I do lat raises with dumbells. I just went to the machine instead (military press) and there was no pain at all. It's still annoying though, I wanna figure it out.
Then I did a pretty good run. Solid gains... I think depending on the incline, I should have no problem beating that mile and a half in 10 minutes.

Ramadan trips me up every year. I get in a groove exercise/healthy eating wise, going to the gym, and then BAM, Ramadan and everything goes out the window. I can't get my motivation back after it finishes. It takes months to work back up. inshaAllah this year will be different, but I've been telling myself that for the last 3 years, and it never is
The husband always tells me that he used to play soccer for hours before iftar back home, but I just can't see myself doing a hardcore workout, even if it is an hour or 2 before iftar. I usually go through 32 ounces of water in my step and weight lifting classes. I know I definately can't do an hour of step without water. I'm practically dying when I do have water.
*mentally prepares schedule* Ok, so if I cook a crudload of food for iftars on Saturday and Sunday, I may be able to swing going to the gym an hour before iftar, work out, break my fast on water and an energy bar, and still get home in time to make it to taraweeh. Of course, I'd have to convince the husband that he would need to microwave his own iftar...hmmm...

Re: Health and Fitness Thread
Why don't you guys just go into a holding pattern during Ramadan? Take it on like a cleanse or something - just nutrition and rest, no work out?
I only say so, because I find when I work out with less food, I lose more than I would've if I just laid low and ate.

Re: Health and Fitness Thread
I got beat up by a machine . I was adjusting the seat on one of the machines and it fell back and banged me on the head really, really hard. Thank GOD no one else in the gym saw. I don't understand why the back of the seat was so freaking heavy. Anyway, no real harm, so no real foul, Alh.
I had a really, really good workout, Alh. InshAllah tomorrow, I can workout for at least 30 minutes.

Was the little spring-pin out all the way? Yeh, machines are hard - one time I gave myself an uppercut with the curl machine, I'm lucky I still have all my teeth.
I didn't work out today. I either have allergies or a cold... or something. So I bought anti-histamine, vitamins and just took a shower and stared at the weights. Ugh. Fingers crossed I'll be back in there tomorrow.
