Everyone's different I suppose. When I hit the treadmill, looking at the LEDs on the treadmill, especially the time left, is the LAST thing I want to do, unless my workout is like a minute away from being over. Because when I do, I just keep dwelling on how much longer I have to keep running, and that just makes my workout mentally harder.
So I'll do anything to distract myself from it - listening to the music being played in the gym, looking at the TV screens, etc. Makes my workout go by a lot quicker.

Yeh no, I hear you... I actually don't look at the time. I was working on a req one time, and it was pretty intense. I was watching the minutes, and then seconds count down. The last 5 were the longest of my life.
I tend to look at the little graphical display of hills and dips that blink. Or I stare at some indefinite point off in the distance... but yeh, everything else fades out (if I'm pushing it... if I'm not I just get bored and look around).
Today is my first rowing machine day... I'll see how it goes. I tried it yesterday just to warm up, and I'm not sure if I actually do like it... we'll see.

I bike to work rain or shine (even floods sometimes). You just have to hate the alternative and then it's super duper easy

Re: Health and Fitness Thread
man, so I did the rowing machine. It had these ghetto footstraps (yeh I dunno what it is about me falling off machines) and I have to really wail on the thing if I even wanna break a sweat.
But... I found out the elliptical was definitely getting my heart rate up there. You crank on the resistance and it feels like you're wading chest-deep through mud. Cool. I think it'll be running/recumbent/elliptical.
On the other hand, my legs are scrawny and weak. I could barely do anything with squats (it was the first time I've ever done them). That's fine, there's a day one for everything... humiliating as it might be.

Think twice about the rowing machine. It's really easy to hurt your back using it. Slipped discs are for ever.

Hate the alternative?
Anyway, alhamdulilah I worked out today after nearly a month. I feel good. Although I wouldn't consider it a 'proper' work-out compared to my previous ones, but I usually take it easy if I haven't worked out for a long time. I'm going to draw up a plan for the summer and insha'allah I'll hopefully be regular.
And sally isn't fat... Fitness isn't always about being fat anyway.

wheelworks i think what you do is awesome and quite admirable. my dad is currently de-rusting my beloved bike (it was injured that way due to the harsh illinois winter, my apartment was too small to store it inside ). i cant wait until we're reunited so i can start riding it again, i used to ride it to class every single day. i love my bike.

Re: Health and Fitness Thread
I can't ride a two-wheeled bike, so that's besides the point anyway.
I'm more of a treadmill type of person/indoor cycling type of person.
