I might try that today to mix things up. I feel too lethargic after I fast to do much, but maybe a short high-intensity workout could work.

Re: Health and Fitness Thread
Soo, i need help on this one.
I'm a senior in highschool and i play tennis right now for my school team and i play singles. we still have 2 weeks of matches and then post season. Since ramadan starte ive been trying multiple things to keep my energy up for my matches in the afternoon but nothing ive tried seems to work. i come home from my tennis matches/practices, and i completely crash. i'll sleep for an hour, eat iftar, do my namaaz and then sleep for another 2 hours, pray, then do as little home work as i can to get by, and sleep some more. ive been averaging 10 hours of sleep a night. my energy level these days are soo low even after sleeping a lot. im very competitve at tennis and i dont want to give it up. and there is no way im gonna skip my fasts. any advice?

Re: Health and Fitness Thread
I still bike to work and back (10 mile round trip). So far I haven't collapsed from exhaustion yet. I gotta fix my sleep hours though. I only get about 4 hours per night and probably half of that during the last 15 days of Ramadan. Hoo boy

eat more high energy slowly digesting foods at iftar and suhoor? Maybe you could eat some beans for breakfast or something? That's all I can think of.

Hey, you should come over to my place, then we can be chubby and un-wanted together and watch Lifetime movies while eating popcorn.

I remember being in your same position in high school. Are you drinking enough fluids? Honestly though, you should let yourself sleep because it's tiring to play singles on an empty stomach like that. Best of luck to you in your matches.

yeah ive been trying to drink as much as i can, but since i sleep somuch now, i dont get much time. i eat a large iftar and with it i drink a water bottle and a gatorade bottle. and i do the same thing during suhoor. and pretty much inbetween iftar and suhoor all i do is sleep. i'll try getting in alot more water. maybe a midnight water fill up or something.

Re: Health and Fitness Thread
Surprisingly, I have been able to work out during the day. I don't do a hardcore work out, out of fear that I'll be damn thirsty all day but I do stretch/pilates and do crunches. So yay. After Ramadan, I hope to join a gym.

Do you mean all you do in between iftaar and suhoor is sleep and get up every two minutes to use the washroom?

Re: Health and Fitness Thread
I've been driving for three years and I'm craving for a bike but my parents are not allowing me because it's not safe , make me feel like a 4 year old at times .
After ramadhan i'm going to join recreation aerobics class twice weekly inshallah. It's so difficult to find woman only excerise groups. I found a woman only water work outs but the instructor is a male...how convenient

10 Ways to Lose Weight Without Dieting
Simple changes to your lifestyle can help you lose weight and keep it off.
By Kathleen Zelman, MPH,RD,LD
WebMD Feature
Sure, you can lose weight quickly. There are plenty of fad diets that work to shed pounds rapidly -- while leaving you feeling hungry and deprived. But what good is losing weight only to regain it? To keep pounds off permanently, it's best to lose weight slowly. And many experts say you can do that without going on a "diet." Instead, the key is making simple tweaks to your lifestyle.
One pound of fat -- is equal to 3,500 calories. By shaving 500 calories a day through dietary and exercise modifications, you can lose about a pound a week. If you only need to maintain your current weight, shaving 100 calories a day is enough to avoid the extra 1-2 pounds most adults gain each year.
Adopt one or more of these simple, painless strategies to help lose weight without going on a "diet":
- Eat Breakfast Every Day. One habit that's common to many people who have lost weight and kept it off is eating breakfast every day. "Many people think skipping breakfast is a great way to cut calories, but they usually end up eating more throughout the day, says Elizabeth Ward, MS, RD, author of The Pocket Idiot's Guide to the New Food Pyramids. "Studies show people who eat breakfast have lower BMIs than breakfast-skippers and perform better, whether at school or in the boardroom." Try a bowl of whole-grain cereal topped with fruit and low-fat dairy for a quick and nutritious start to your day.
- Close the Kitchen at Night. Establish a time when you will stop eating so
