AmroodWaala: this has turned into a chick thread
Hahaha, then suggest some manly advice as to how I can prepare before joining a boxing gym. I don't want to bust in there unprepared. I've been working out my arms and they are defined. I still have some looseness on the bottom which I am trying to tone. I think I still need to lose another inch in my stomach; to have a 25inch and completely toned. My thighs are tightening up but I don't think by much.
I should get a punching bag.

Re: Health and Fitness Thread
I'm soooo impatient, I wish the gym would open up already! I'm cleaning my room and as soon as I'm done with that I'm gonna take out my (hot pink ) yoga mat so at least i can say I did something.
Shadha: how'd you get your arms defined? I usually do this (warning: lady with shorts in pic) and it buuurrrrrns. It's worked for me before but I want something else in addition to it to make it go faster

My instructor tried to get me to do those. Honestly, I don't like them but I don't know why. It's just a weird exercise to me. I need to start doing pushups again but I have been doing a machine for arm curls and a few where I bring it down towards my lap but in different positions to work different parts of my arms.
I'm aspiring to one day be able to do chin ups.

What you need is an endurance/aerobic exercise. I doubt it's a Mike Tyson style 30-sec knock-out boxing training. The trainer would be concerned with you sustaining/enduring. Strength and muscle toning will result from participation. So, do some cardio for preparation. It would also cut some inches as well.
In general terms, the bottom part of the upper arm, triceps, are worked when you push weight away from you (one can work the triceps by doing push ups, straight bar push down while standing, bench press - while chest is the major targeted area in benchpress, the secondary muscles being worked are triceps, etc.)
Pulling the weight toward you works the inner arm, biceps. (Pullups/chinups, back exercises--secondary are biceps, curl, etc. are good for working that muscle part)
In back exercises & bench presses (chest), the major targeted areas are not arms... Avoid those if you ONLY want to work the arm

Q: Is it sunnah to keep a goat?
A: It is not sunnah to keep a goat. (end of fatwa)
However, it is permissible to keep a goat, provided the bakri (goat) is hijabi:
Having a Hijabi bakri in your backyard (if you have a backyard) will relieve stress (research shows having a pet is good for mental health), it will keep your mind occupied, and divert one's attention from his/her pathetic life.
and that's my contribution to health & fitness.

Re: Health and Fitness Thread
I think that either goes in the 'funny religious questions' thread or the 'more sickos' thread
amroodwala: Is that a real fact, that girls get "tonage" more easily than guys? I guess it explains how I can do crunches for a few days and see a difference when my husband has to work for 2 months to get any noticeable definition. Yesssss!! He doesnt know the biological/scientific reason and he doesnt need to know ...all he needs to know is that I'm winning! muahahahahaha!!!

My wrists are icky too (yoga class was hard b/c of my wrists) but I've found that working them out makes them more stable when I wanna do the backwards chair-pushup thing like I posted above. Keep them loose too by flexing them, it helps a lot

I don't know if that'll help..I had a cyst between 2 of the bones in my wrist so it was pretty bad before but has been more unstable ever since the surgery.

Ohhhhh, in that case I'm totally ignorant about it (I just have weak wrists, no surgery alh). Have you tried talking to a doctor about wrist exercises or therapy?
