Re: Health and Fitness Thread
if i have a lot of weight to lose, would it better to do a workout that strictly consists of cardio, or one that combines strength training and cardio?
my concern is that i want to lose the weight first, and then worry about being toned...

thats not gonna happen...the best way is to do strenght + cardio it works wonders..theres a whole science behind it. its not gonna make you big by any means, but aid the weight loss

Re: Health and Fitness Thread
Here's all I need to know about strength:
*Muscle uses more calories than fat to function. Therefore, increased muscle = increased calories burned = increased weight loss
*You continue to burn calories at a higher level for longer after a strength workout than you do after a cardio workout.
Therefore stregth = teh awesome.

I think it's good to mix it up. You don't have to do a workout that combines weights and cardio every single time, but try to do a full-body weight workout twice a week (how you split that is up to you). Plus, weight training can help you boost your metabolism and prevent osteoporosis

Re: Health and Fitness Thread
haha... the calories in last night's dinner was the amount of calories i'm supposed to eat IN ONE DAY...
it's okay... it was a post finals celebration, and i didnt gain any weight alhamdulillah.. but this is why i never eat out.. when i'm at home i know exactly what goes into it and exactly how many calories it is and how healthy it is...

you could probably get a set of weights, i don't think it should be too expensive.. and using your own body weight is really good too.

not with a 2 yr old and 6 month old at home right now.
for cardio, i'll put the kids in a stroller and go for a walk. or i'll go to my parents' house and use their elliptical/treadmill.
but as for strength training, i wouldn't know where to begin.
