Re: Health and Fitness Thread
Yeah, it's there. However, it's kinda hard to hang on to the rails when you're running at 8.5 mph, just to have your heart rate measured.

Re: Health and Fitness Thread
Looks like Nike's coming up with some trainer-lifestyle companion thingy that uploads to your iPhone.. it looks kinda neat, I wonder what exactly it'll be able to do though. I'd love to see how many cals burned during a workout.. or average speed.. distance, whether I need to work out harder or longer or not.

The ones at my gym tell you "It's not a good idea to do that" and it won't give you a reading above a certain speed.
Anyway, it looks like I've got my work cut out for me.

Re: Health and Fitness Thread
My step/strength teacher didn't show up last night iA I'm going to a strictly strength class on Thursday to make up for it. Did 30 minutes on the dreadmill and got soooo bored.
hefty - looks like the nike+ thing that's already available for the ipod. I have it, and I like it ok, but it figures distance based on footfall, so if your stride changes, it doesn't accurately track your distance.
heba - Was the cool elliptical like thing a precor?
Variable - I'd say that before you attempt to do heartrate training, you look at some of the old fashion methods of getting faster. When attempting to run faster, it's usually recommended to run longer and to vary your workouts. Work yourself up to running 45 minutes, and then add speedwork exercises a few days a week. With that, you should be able to run shorter distances faster. Even mile specialists don't just run a mile or 2 and then stop. They'll have some longer runs, and some speedwork.

i googled precor and yes! it looks like that. like the arm parts dont move and it seems liek the strides are a bit different than an elliptical.

Re: Health and Fitness Thread
I'm still feeling kinda icky but my meds made me feel MUCH better than yesterday alhamdulillah. So I decided to go to the gym like I planned every Monday, Wed and Friday. Blah.. they had moved the equipment and are making room for more and I didnt wanna go across campus to the other gym. So I didnt get to work out today
Inshallah tomorrow I will go to the across-campus gym b/c I have to go there for yoga in the morning anyway. Actually I am wanting to do what sally said which is 5 times a week but I cant do it til after finals. I've noticed though that by working out last friday and monday, walking instead of going on the bus and eating less, I feel thinner and look different too. The scale doesnt show it yet but alhamdulillah there's a tiny difference

if you go to a gym you should find a body fat scale and keep track fo the percentage lost cuz if the % isnt going down you're just losing muscle/water..even though the likelihood of that happenign for 8 entire lbs is really unlikely/minimal but still its always better to keep track of that. and anyways im sure if you measured and stuff youd see a diff..plus your clothes must def feel less tight

Re: Health and Fitness Thread
I lost zero pounds as usual. I might as well just give in to my chocolate craving or eat whatever the heck I want...
I tried to exercise today but for some reason I was so weak and tired (I'm getting kind of sick, might have something to do with it)... after like 25 minutes I hung my hat.
anyways, since my summer schedule is more permitting, I think I'm going to take up spinning. I tried it once and Hopefully I'll burn and it'll be mucho fun and energizing. They offer spinning classes at my school gym (last time I checked at least)
