Should I be worried? My workout is usually an hour long... an hour and a half if I do weights, but I don't do those everyday.
Does everybody here usually do 90 minutes of cardio? I thought 45 is okay... plus some stretching before and after. I did 60 minutes of cardio today and thought that was good... 'cause it's more than my usual 45.

I was at the gym from about 4:30/40 until about 7. This was the first time and maybe the last time I'll ever workout like that. NO, you shouldn't be worried. I'm starting some group exercise classes tomorrow. They are about 1 hr a piece. Prior to the start of class, I'll probably do 20 minutes on the elliptical and some weight machines again. And honestly, I only lasted 90 minutes on the treadmill because someone was next to me talking. When I was at Ballys, I did 45 to 60 minutes on the elliptical every time I went. I think 45 to 60 is a healthy normal thing. You don't want be excessive (neither do I).

I slept half way through one of the classes. I was really tired yesterday! Anyway, they are having those same classes in the evening iA, so I'll be there.

Re: Health and Fitness Thread
- frozen blueberries are delicious. like, really really good.
- i don't eat anything before i work out in the morning. should i?
- i need a routine. i'm really not in that good of shape at all, but alhumdulillah i can usually handle cardio w/o much problem. i don't even get sore anymore? i walked/jogged a mile and a half on the treadmill yesterday and did 20 mins on the elliptical. nothing.
- my problem with weight training isn't that i don't think it's necessary (when i was thinner, i used to just go around the gym and do various exercises), it's that i just don't know what to do? or what order to do them in. i was telling fooz the other day, that i'll be like "okay, i'll do 4 reps of 15 push ups (off the chair)" and do them and alhumdulillah, i'll be fine. but really, i'm totally just picking arbitrary numbers and exercises i know how to do. i'd like some routine i can stick to. suggestions?
i kinda feel th at because i have no soreness whatsoever, i'm not really gaining anything other than "increased physical activity" booo.

Maybe you should change up what you're doing? I read somewhere online if you do the same thing at the gym, pretty much your body gets used to it - you hit like a plateau or something. Sally's the best at routines. Talk to her and let her make something up for you.

word, that's what i figured as well. but like i said, the problem is just don't know WHAT to do.
i think we have a a couple of fitness tapes (yes. VHS. those things) lying around somewhere. maybe i'll pop one of those in, or download some belly dancing vid or just practice some dance -- at least with those things, i know i'm working most of my body instead of just leaving it up to me.
plus, i've never had my legs hurt so much as after i've done a hardcore bhangra routine not even the day after fooz made me do legs with her at the gym.

My legs were killing me yesterday! I felt like an ol' buddhi. If you stick with the treadmill, maybe you should increase the incline and the time/distance. Once when I was at Ballys, I saw this guy running on full incline. He was a stick too. He totally could have given Kate Moss (circa Calvin Klein waif ads in the 90s) a run for her money.

I run on full incline.
But I feel sore afterwards too.

Re: Health and Fitness Thread
I went to two classes. I did a 30 minute resistance class with one of those beach ball looking things and an hour class that was a mix of cardio, strength, and flexibility. I realized that my left arm is much weaker than my right .

Re: Health and Fitness Thread
dayamn, dramarani is on a freakin roll. mashaAllah!! (just remember youre not doing strenght everyday..real important or youll burn out/injure yourself) and always, weights before cardio.
and dramarani, you're right. since we're adaptable creatures we hit a plateau pretty quickly. and to become sore you dont need to necessarily increase the time but sometimes doing a shorter but much tougher than normal work out does the work prettty darn well.
farah, what kind of equipment do you have access to?

Re: Health and Fitness Thread
So today in Bio class I learned that you should do resistance training/exercise first and then do the weights.......
Because our body eats up Glycogen before attacking the fat......and if you exercise too much, then after the fat, your body will attack your proteins that are in your tissues. Not good because that equals to starvation.
Meaning, that if you do weights first and then resistance, then by the time your body starts to attack the fat, you're already tired and won't get the full results.
Good class today

I just realized that I have the potential to do 155 miles a week. Now I just gotta avoid laziness...
