don't make it only about weight loss. health/fitness span a wide scope. cardiovascular endurance, muscular tone/endurance/strength, flexibility --- they all matter too.

low intensity work outs result in mad cravings shortly after the work out and persistant hunger for a while longer

and high intensity work outs result in appetite suppression for a lot longer..like in the long run

ive experienced that and know a lot of people who say the same thing..and ive also read something on it but i dismissed it as a myth in the past

but it's all about balance..so its good to mix the two up..

being able to press 55 lb dumbbells isnt bad at all.. if you can bench two 55 lb dumbbells, i'd guess you could probably put up about 200 with a bar. not great, but more than average. (plus, i think the guy you quoted is fairly young)

hm. why would you say 200lbs? the bar is 45lbs, so thats 22.5 each side which leaves about 32lbs, round up to 35 and that ends up being 115lbs. and don't get me wrong, 55lbs isn't bad but it sure isn't special.

Coz benching dumbbells & maintaining proper form is a lot harder than just using a bar, at least from what I've seen. Your average person who can put up ~200 lbs on a bench probably can't do more than a pair of 60s if they use dumbbells.

infamousbrown- how did you go about deciding on a gym to train in? The college I'll be attending in the fall, InshaAllah , of course has a fitness center, which is good but as you know I am looking to train in kickboxing specifically. Or maybe I could look into Muay Thai? All I know is, I do not want to compete because I love myself too much to allow myself to get bruised up.

Kickboxing is very cool, I'm going to look for a class gain soon insha Allah. It works most of your body and I swear with just 3 hours a week you can have ur body to prestine perfection and you can eat like a pig and even take off months inbetween . At least our old instructor worked us that hard,he was quite the miltant, standing on our stomachs (covered ) punching them, it was well cool.

Anyway, yes, i think u should look for a gym with good instructors (who don't make you cry too much)

Ahhh I remember Kick Boxing. I used to get kicked in the head now and then and punched in the stomach too. Nothing Like having the wind knocked out of you eh.

I think Kickboxing somewhat contributed to my sculpted legs (that's more impressive than a body builders). Well it started it and cycling finished the job donchaknow

i never really do the flat dumbell chest press because i prefer the bench, but based on what i'm putting up on the bench and incline dumbell chest presses and flys, it doesn't sound right to me. in any case i'll try it out.
