Re: Health and Fitness Thread
Yeah.....I'm pretty excited about getting back into the gym as well....I have a lot of ideas on how to be more efficient and productive.....I will approach my training like a robot from the year 2000.

Don't sweat it........lucky for us, a little thing called 'muscle memory' will come into effect....you'll be able to recoup whatever losses you sustained pretty quickly.

Thanks Jinnz, dream, and Revert for your suggestions. I think I'll have to stick with body-weight training as I don't really have access to weights. Jinnz is right in that I'm not really obsessed with getting big... just being less skinny and getting a decent physique. Any other suggestions would be most welcome. Maybe I can bench press crocodiles on the Nile?

Re: Health and Fitness Thread
I'm also looking forward to getting back into working out. I've been going to the gym to do yoga and pilates, but haven't had much energy for anything else. Depending on when Eid is, maybe I'll start with bootcamp on Thursday. That will certainly get me back to it!

Uh, okay. I don't want to detox anymore.
Sal: That's hilarious. I've been trying to find the stuff in desi grocery stores for a while now, but never came across it. My mom said I don't want to drink it anyway.

Re: Health and Fitness Thread
There is something about biking in the rain in the freezing winter puffing out clouds of vapor and watching the water spray off my front wheel that makes life worth living. Makes me wish I could bike for ever and ever
It really makes me feel sorry for drivers looking miserable inside their cars. It's a misarable feeling being stuck inside a metal housing contraption trying to peek through a frosty windshield with the heater full blast just waiting for the trip to end and knowing that when it does end, you'll have to prepare to either get an umbrella or just bolt inside to try to beat getting wet....
Funny thing is, they think I'm the one misarable

Re: Health and Fitness Thread
Timit (re: detox)
Our body is pretty efficient at eliminating toxins on its own, however given the amount of artificial junk that enters our system due to nature of some of the foods we eat the natural process can somewhat be affected.
Those veggie or fruit only detoxes, or the kinds that make you take various supplements are overall debated (once I fell prey to them) and the majority find them to be worthless.. We need a proper, balanced diet to uphold our mental and physical functions and that's it...period.
So, really, if you want to do a detox, I would suggest eliminating any and all junk foods, sodas, juices, everything processed. Try to eat foods in its most natural state as possible. Go low on the meat, try eating just chicken breast or stick to tuna. Eat beans, hummus, salads, use olive oil and natural herbs to flavor your food, and eat raw nuts and fruits as snacks. Eliminate cereals as well..eat oatmeal instead...And drink lots of water. No ketchup, mayo, mustard, cut low on the sodium consumption also. Make your own sauces out of all natural yogurt, season it with slight amounts of your favorite herbs etc

Yes, but only if fasting is done in the proper manner. And eating fried foods and junk at iftar completely kills any of the detox benefits present in fasting for 30 days.
