I stopped working out for a week for some reason, then I started feeling so weak and started again, but I'm back down at twenty pushups =( o ye, today's workout day!!!
1...2... well I'm done pushups.
My bro pointed out to me that going too far up in situps isn't good for the back, so how far up am I supposed to go

Re: Health and Fitness Thread
I've been training these last 3 weeks for a 5k run tomm morning. Its so early I'll have to pray Fajr there. Then, I'll wait an hour and run the 1 mile Gobbler. Then I'll race back home and start cooking the turkey (insha-Allah)

Re: Health and Fitness Thread
My new year's resolution is to start working out at the gym. However, I'm going to work out in my room till then so I don't embarras (that doesn't look like I spelled it right) myself at the gym.
My legs are fine, I just need to work on upper body. What are some good exercises for that?

So I did a lot better than expected. My Motivation? The cross-country girl running in front of me with a shirt that read "My mascara runs faster than you." And being the only bearded guy running and being assigned the running number 911....purely coincidental. I think I'm going to try the 10k run next year iA.

Dude, get a work-out partner and go to the gym (I'm guessing you mean the campus gym). You wont be able to do as much in your dorm as you would in the gym. And make a work-out schedule and follow it.
btw, if you're embarrassed of something like not benching as much as the other guys, use the machine for a few months.

That's hilarious!
However, it's hard to run in cold weather because it hurts my chest when I do that. I actually went for track conditioning at my high school and threw up, which suprised me because I can sprint, but I can't do endurance running.

Yeah, the campus gym. It's nice and close and all the good stuff. However, I can do push-ups and sit-ups and stuff like that in my room for about a month, and then I can go to the gym. I just don't want to go to the gym with nothing going on.
I would go with an MSA member, but I'm one of only two Muslims who live on campus, so I'll see who's interested.

Re: Health and Fitness Thread
after like 3 weeks of eating junk, i thought of hitting the gym, truthfully i was bribed for a cup of moca.
i warmed up for 40 minutes on a treadmill eventhough i hate treadmills then i went n joined the kickboxing class (1 hour) which i hated it. i prefer pilates instead. anyhoo i learned this cool girly style sit ups where u dont need to lean forward half way as u would with sit ups. its super cool, ive tried it few times since then.

Haha - that's awesome. I've just started training for a half-marathon. I'm sort of scared!

Hey, that's awesome. I'm aiming for the same. I think so far I've got like maybe 10 miles down in one go. The problem is that you can't run 10 miles on consecutive days, but you can't not train everyday. So you need a nice way to divide your mileage throughout the week and run the total number you're aiming for but not used to maybe once or twice in the entire week, spaced out nicely or you fear fatigue and all that good stuff.
Anyways, I'm scared too. I need to run a real 5k and 10k race though first. Just so I know what to expect...rather than just showing up to a half marathon like an idiot.
I heard in a lot of full marathons, ipods/headphones are not allowed. Is this true, do you know? And does it apply to half marathons?

They're not allowed in the race I've signed up for. I use them in training though.
I run 3 times a week and do the elliptical plus some weights for 2 or 3 days and take one rest day. I don't run on consecutive days though.
If you haven't run a race before, find one around you and sign up. There are usually a bunch of 5 and 10ks around. I've run a few and it's nice just to get an idea of how things work.

Yeah I don't know if I can run without my music Because it blocks a lot of the other distracting stimuli for me and keeps me focused on proper breathing and posture.
Ah well, yeah InshaAllah I'll sign up for one in the Spring. It's too cold to run outside right now. How much are you running on every consecutive day?

Google the Couch to 5k program. That will get you started in training to run a 5k, which is about 3 miles. That's a good first race.
Sally, I just started training for this half. I run three days a week. One short but fast run, one interval run and one long run. I'm going to try and increase the long run every week. I don't run two days in a row because that's kind of hard on my knees. Instead, I do the elliptical plus some weights three days a week and rest one day (sometimes I rest two days a week, in which case I cut | |
