Ok so I really want to lose as much weight as humanly possible over the next two months. I've decided to spend at least 1.5 hours (but hopefully 2) at the gym day for at least 5 days and maybe a sixth day with some cardio. I'm going to do cardio+interval training+weight training.

I wanted a good source of protein+fiber and my husband recommended this: Rice Protein by Nutribiotic - VitaminShoppe.com

How many servings should/can I have a day?

Also my sister lost a ton of weight really fast by avoid carbs altogether (and so far kepti t off). Is this healthy? How much carbs can I cut out to maximize weight loss yet not hurt myself?

Did she cut out all carbs including fruit? Or just refined ones, grains etc?

Including fruit. She basically ate chicken and vegetables for a few weeks and lost nearly 15 pounds or something like that. Right now I'm on a low glycemic diet. I replaced my rice with lentils, bread with low glycemic bread, and if I eat sweets, it's occassional and the chocolate is always dark. I also upped my protein and fat (I hardly ate fat) and eat less carbs altogether.

I really would love to lose 15-20 pounds. 10 is probably most realistic but 15 would be really nice. My last fitting for my wedding dress is end of October but I want to lose 20 pounds before the wedding (December).

I need to back to workingout/eating healthy.

I'm going to make sure I put down a meal plan for Ramadan so I don't indulge in unhealthy food inshaAllah.

It probably wouldn't hurt to do that for a few weeks just to get the weight off, but you don't want to do that during Ramadan if you want to keep working out, you know?

Two quick notes;

First off...congrats on starting a routine again! 1.5-2 hours a day is definitely overkill......you build muscle while recuperating (which in turn helps you to burn fat by increasing your metabolism)...studies have shown that you reach a kind of 'point of diminishing returns' after about 75 minutes or so of working out....after which you slide into a catabolic state.

Second...in terms of the extreme low carb thing...yeah it works.... but it isn't really necessary to go that route at this point. What your sister did was basically a ketogenic diet......super low carbs/high protein and fats....it's useful but as someone who's just getting back into training you will make serious gains on a more moderate diet as a beginner almost inspite of yourself. Keep the carbs lower than normal....eliminate sugary foods...build all your meals around protein, incorporate healthy fats and eat 5-6 meals a day and you're good to go. Once you hit a brick wall in terms of gains then it's time to consider turning up the volume on your diet and trying the hardcore stuff out.

I gotta run...just popped in for a sec to see what's going on around here.....I'll post some diet stuff later on insha'Allah.

Thanks so much! I dunno I just find that 30 or even 45 mins at the gym doesn't really help me in loosing weight. My body is stubborn. And I am including weight resistence in my time. I did it this morning and it felt so. frikkin. good.

Salika, High Intensity Interval Training for less than 30 mins will kill you and burn lots of fat. Also do Tabata sets of full body squats add some weight if you want. If you complain that your not being worked hard enough then you are superhuman. I've seen body builders cry doing my routine.

The only way you'll lose fat is if you blast your body with High Intensity cardio. ALso don't do HIIT and Tabata sets in the same session..you'll hurt yourself..i did.

Do 2-3 days a week of HIIT. And 2-3 days of resistance training and light cardio on weight days. obviously do the HIIT and weights on different days.

Also i don't agree with the super low carb diets..a soon as you start eating carbs again the weight packs on. I try to eat good carbs, but i'm always open to diet suggestions everyone.

It took me FOREVER to lose 20lbs, and when i say forever - i mean 4 months.

This past month and a half, I gained back 8lbs
I suck big time.

So now I need to lose 30 to 40lbs. Much of it is pregnancy weight that I never lost with my first child, and some it is just plain ugly fat.
I set out to lose all this weight in January, it was my new year's resolution. Unfortunately, it's almost the end of August and I'm still fat as ever. boooooooo.

Being the fattest at parties/dawats/in the room is not fun. ever.

I workout okayy, meaning I try to do walking/elliptical at least 3 times a week. Usually the workout lasts for about 30-40 mins.
But as for diet intake, I'm horrible. I eat whatever is around the house, or whatever I'm feeding the kids.
And I know that diet is 80% of weight loss.

I tried googling HIIT and couldn't get that much specific information, can you maybe PM or post your routine? Thanks!

And what's Tabata?
