Re: Health and Fitness Thread
Ramadan is my ideal time to lose weight. I wouldn't recommend anyone starve themselves, nor should they go below the recommended calorie level to lose weight. I try to stay around 1200, which is what I should be eating on a regular day anyway to lose weight when I'm not exercising.
Heck even trying to stay within the "normal" 1800-2000 calorie limit during Ramadan would be a good goal. No need to gorge every night with 3000+ calories.
So, I've been taking this class at the gym every Sunday since April. I really like it. But my sunnipath course is at the same time No gym for me today. inshaAllah now I"ll be shifting to a Saturday/Tuesday/Thursday routine instead of the Saturday/Sunday/Tuesday I've been doing.

Re: Health and Fitness Thread
I'm never ever just waking up and going to the gym again ! I went to a 10:30 class; however, I woke up at 9:30 and ate a banana around 10. I thought I'd be fine by 10:30, but hell no. I wasn't. The last 15 minutes of class, I was so nauseous. On my way home, I had to stop and get a Sprite. I feel a little better, but I feel like this ruined my workout. Boo!
1 - 1 hr class down, 19 more to go to win a prize .

Re: Health and Fitness Thread
I have a question for wheelworks.
I'm supposed to go bike riding tonight with my friend. I took my bike out this morning to ride across campus and when I started pedaling it makes clicking noises. I changed the gears back and forth fast and then slowly while riding it and nothing worked. It's a used bike and someone installed a retarded looking kickstand on it so maybe the pedals bang against it when I move them? The pedals don't move when i try to move them with my hand...they get stuck but the kickstand isn't in the way then so I can't tell, it's really weird

I'd grease the chain and the bearings..sound sliek they could be sticking. If not take it to be repeaired.

Re: Health and Fitness Thread
So, I went to the gym today for a yoga class and I think I seriously hurt myself. I'm having an intense pain in my lower back and while I was doing one of the moves, I felt a cramp start that extended from my calf up to the back of my thigh. I had to stop and massage it out, but it still hurts really badly. I'm sooo NOT going to the gym tomorrow. I don't understand why I'm having all of these pains. Should I have waited one day in between workouts?

Hmmm slowly rotate the pedals untill you see if it hits the kick stand. If its the kind where you have to back pedal to brake then you won't be able to backpedal with your hand. Try lifting the back of the bike up and then pedal forwards to see if it hits the kick stand.
Something is engaging, could be the tire rubbing the sides of the brake. Mebbe ask your husband to check the tire if it hits something or the pedal crank when the noise occurs.
Def. Make sure everything is greased up theough.

You can do yoga 3-4 times a week, its fine. The first week hurts like hell though but it does get better to the point where you feel stiff if you dont do yoga

Hey bro, what sort of injuries are you getting? Generally speaking I do a 3-5 minute cardio warm-up followed by light stretches before weightlifting sessions. Next I use lighter weights to warm up the section I'm working.
Here's a list of stretches you can use (don't go overboard a couple of minutes should be sufficient unless you're trying to improve flexibility in which case you need to do substantially more)
Bodybuilding.com - Stretching Guides Database.
On those rare occasions when I know that I'm likely to be sore as a result of pushing into new territory (or bad form lol) I usually do a light cardio session followed by some cool-down stretching after the workout as it seems to help.

Hey sister, have you ever injured your lower back before? You might have pinched a nerve......pretty common actually. Normally I would never suggest that you work through pain but lower back pain seems to benefit from some light stretches (after being sufficiently warmed up).....if the pain is extreme though I'd advise you to see a doctor or sports chiro asap.
I hope you feel better soon insha'Allah

I keep injuring my shoulder i think its Shoulder Impingement (sp?) which means all i need to do is work the muscles in that area.
Thanks for the stretches bro. JazakAllah Khair. I am starting a new light cardio warmup using light jogging and jumping jacks.

Man......shoulder injuries suck! Hopefully your warm up routine + stretches will help out.....good luck bro.
On another note can I just say how much I HATE cardio?! I truly do.........but I love the way I feel afterward. Guess you just have to take the good with the bad huh?
