You joined club med didn't you.
Today I ran 25 minutes with 5 minute cooldown and did 3.6 miles. I cranked it up to 9.something mph for the last few minutes. Just after I did, I saw on the little display show a solid block of inclines coming my way right till the end. I thought the treadmill was possessed and it was trying to kill me. But I just bit down and pounded through it (or up it rather)
Anyway, long runs are so boring.... I get what everyone who focuses on endurance and burn is talking about now.

Re: Health and Fitness Thread
Variable, try listening to audiobooks during long runs. It really helps.
Today, I went to my fancy new gym for a class this morning while Mr. PhDGirl was doing rounds. Then we decided to go out and have halwa poori. So yeah, after halwa, poori, cholay etc, I'm pretty sure I ate more than what I burned off in the class . And now I have to sit on my butt and work for the rest of the day. I haven't had that kind of stuff in my system for awhile, so my stomach feels all weird - it probably doesn't know how to handle the grease!

Hahahah I'm so out of shape. I had to run slightly the other day to catch the shuttle and climb up 2 flights of stairs, and I was out of breath.

Re: Health and Fitness Thread
I've been out of the loop these last few weeks. Grandfather was sick and then passed away Little chance of working out.
Yeah, when I got home from the funeral, the husband looks at me and says "this is the first time I've ever seen you as fat. did you gain 10 pounds?"
Back to healthy eating...check
Back to the gym...check
Kick husband in the behind...not yet, but it's tempting.

im kind of upset with my heart. i feel like it's beating too hard all the time i think im overtrained. i dont really know. whateverrrrrrrr i wanna see a doctor and im making an appointment tomorrow. i havent made real endurance progress for 2 weeks. instead my heart starts beating really fast. its soo stupid. its possible i havent kept up cardiac conditioning with muscle conditioning because i dont lack endurance otherwise
this is so lame, i wanted to cry today. I HATE FEELING LIKE all my hard work is going to waste

Re: Health and Fitness Thread
does anyone know of a good way to stretch out the upper back/trapezius/neck muscles without extending the arms back?
i have a little tendonitis in my left shoulder that doesnt bother me at all alhamdulillah, but i can feel it pull when i extend my arms back and im afraid ill injure it if i stretch too far.

Think of it like Islam. If Islam were a regular old ritual then it would just be a chore and no one would bother following it. Since it's a way of life, it's intricately woven into our lifestyle so that it's super easy to be a decent Muslim.
No how does exercising pertain to this? Well obviously it's something that's stuck in your "to do" list where you'll exercise when you have the time. Reality is that you'll probably have a hard time making the time for it so exercise is neglected.
Now if you embed exercise into your lifestyle, then you'll actually be working out constantly instead of trying to make the time to do so. Simple things like choosing regular stairs to the elevator should suffice.
For me, I bike to work. That's kept my belly fairly even in surface and it's actually very easy for me (even easier now that I've come to prefer cycling to driving).

Plus, working out doesn't have to be a big huge ordeal. Just start by taking 3 10-minute (or 2 15 -minute, whatever works for you) walks during the day. Maybe after lunch and dinner or something. You could also try to integrate walking more during the day to start. Another thing to consider is combining exercise with social activities. Instead of meeting someone for coffee, meet them for a walk in the park. The husband and I often go to brunch on the weekends, but we decided that this weekend we're going to go hiking instead. Little changes can really add up. Good luck!
