MashaAllah
This thread SHOULD be the most active on Islamica..i find it saddening that Many Muslims don't see fitness as important.

Re: Health and Fitness Thread
I just came home from a conference and I ran with several people before it started one morning. It was cool because I got to have a chat with someone who might want to hire me when I'm done with the PhD. I'm not good at talking while running though, but we exchanged business cards later, so you never know!

hey bro, that's not cool. a soccer player wouldn't understand, but that can be VERY painful.
(i kid)
anyway, i played soccer (and volleyball) again this weekend, and alhamdulillah, i already notice a difference in speed, endurance, and overall energy. i even scored a couple goals. i was still tired afterward, but it was a more pleasant tired feeling (vs a "i want to puke and die" tired feeling). (i actually did get sick later, but i think that was due to the cholay i was forced to eat at the picnic. cholay is my worst enemy).

As for travelling have you looked into those death by bodyweight things? they might work for a temporary fix.
|
googled it.. from a quick glance, it looks like mostly leg exercises. i don't do or care about doing any leg exercises.. my legs are already lean/solid & i definitely don't want them to get any bigger.
but the really tough thing about travelling isn't working out (most hotels have gyms/workout rooms so that's not really an issue) but eating healthy and often. i like to eat 4-5 3-400 calorie meals with a snack or two to get ~2000 calories. that becomes difficult on the road. i'll try to eat healthy and light for the main meals and keep protein bars handy the rest of the time.

i've considered getting one often, but i've read that they really don't do that much for overall strength. i can't imagine how that is, since lugging around 75 lbs has to be good for you in one way or another.

Re: Health and Fitness Thread
hi yallllll
im back.
i packed my running shoes, but had no time WHATSOEVER and only slept 4 hrs or less than every night....so basically, i didnt work out at ALL
but i walked a lot in really PAINFUL heels...the price girls pay to look good oh and i carried my friends baby around a lot too
like that counts
we ate total crap from wednesday until today
i should feel bad but i think i kinda deserved a break like this.
anyways, how come all you guys eat like 2000 calories while working out?
because im short AND a girl and i eat like 1500-2000 ealories everyday also. i could never drop down to 1200 and continue working out. that's just crazyyy.

It's what gets the job done.
If you want results you have to sacrifice.

Theres a ton of stuff you can do at home
How about buy pilates tapes? They work well and keep you maintained. But if you're looking to lose then youd have to get out there and actually do something
So, you're a fatty, eh? Join tha club

i do barely any cardio.. also, you're not trying to lose weight. if you were, 2000 calories would be too high for you (although maybe not, given that you do a lot of cardio). generally, ~2000 calories is a good amount for a guy trying to lose weight.

Pilates sounds good thanks for the suggestion.
I want to be toner and stronger.
I think I might need someone to do it with me...
Otherwise it'll collect dust

Re: Health and Fitness Thread
I burst a bunch of blood vessels in my anterior delts today... no idea how that happened. I felt like I wasn't lifting enough... But, tomorrow's legs so my upper body will have another day of rest.
Running on the other hand went well. In fact, I think I'm being a wimp about it - I just beat my last goal by a lot (longer, more inclines, more speed). At the end I still had enough juice left to kick it up over the last couple of incline humps. I'm gonna have to think this whole running thing over.

And you'll have the added perk of being bulletproof. It def looks like a good idea, although yeh... expensive. We used to fill up our backpacks with weights, but you can't do a whole lot with that. I guess you get what you pay for.
