I think it could expand beyond the Muslim market too...a lot of vegans and vegitarians would love this stuff.

Well, being in sales means that yes, I do understand how much advertising can influence people.
But my question is ... was Nestle actually telling people to mix the milk powder with contaminated water?
Or were they just saying, "mix the powder with water" and, the people themselves used contaminated sources of water [knowingly or not] ?

Sadly, potable water is hard to find in many areas of the developing world.

Was that the situation in the region where those babies died?
And if it was, then what were the babies being fed before Nestle began selling powdered milk there? Were they only given mothers' milk and no other types of food mixed with the contaminated water?

Dude, you can do your own research, seriously.
You have no idea of what you're talking about.

You're in sales? ah Nestle didn't offer the milk powder as an alternative, they persuaded people it was healthier than breast milk, that if they weren't buying it and feeding it to their children, they were somehow malnourishing them. and as Timbit mentioned before, only rich people have the ability to have
their water filtered. Maybe you don't realise, but there are still loads of people in Africa who live in mud huts with most of the time hardly anything to eat because their maize hasn't grown as much as they thought, or the weather spoilt most of their crops?

My family isn't rich, but our water is filtered by the municipal water company. Canadian water is refreshing and nice to drink, straight from the tap.
And you still haven't shown how Nestle was responsible for those deaths. If the water was there already and people were drinking it, then there should have been no problem using it with the baby formula.
And if it was contaminated and people used it, then how is Nestle to be held liable for that? How can you hold them responsible for something that was outside their control?

true story! (though i dunno the dude's religion, he's non-Muslim): As Al Safa Grows So does opposition to it
though that doesn't make the meat any less halal. shrug.

I'd hold them responsible because they lied in their advertising. That's just despicable. I don't care how accepted it is in first-world countries; it's still despicable.
