Re: How much do you spend on groceries a week?
Yeh, our perma-farmer's market is more expensive... it's all organic and trendy. There were however a few on the way out of the city on a highway that I remember from when I was a kid, they were cheaper I think.
Now I'm all about Super Store.

We don't, not in our house. Everything gets eaten.
If its really old and stale bread, or old cooked rice that no one wants to eat and its been sitting in the Tupperware for like a week or more, then we just give it to the birds and animals. There's a corner in our backyard where my mom just dumps the old bread after breaking it into crumbs, or old rice. It gets eaten up by the birds and squirrels pretty quick.
Other than that we don't throw anything away. I hate throwing away food so much that I'll even eat someone else's leftovers if they really really don't want it.

Leftovers go in the freezer, so we don't throw out much. I do have a small food storage of canned and other non-perishable goods. It's come in handy those times when money has been extra tight.
Spent $70 today, and $20 was for fresh fruits and vegetables. Bread with fiber is really expensive

my dad loves growing vegetables too. he loves the summers when he can just spend the whole day outside taking care of his garden. and he loves telling anyone and everyone that comes over that the food theyre eating was grown in his garden. its cute, he gets really excited about it

Caramel Candy, we used to grow our own vegetables, but then my dad got sick and tired of doing the gardening. We had a peach tree too, but the squirrels would get to the fruit before we did. My parents totally take advantage of a Korean market near our house. I think more Desis go there than Koreans . Its full of fresh fruit and vegetables. You can find stuff there that you wouldn't find in a normal/American grocery store.

i try to avoid having to throw stuff away by freezing everything...everything. my freezer is always packed and my fridge is always pretty bare except for things i cant freeze like drinks/produce/yogurt.
one thing i repeatedly end up throwing away is a bag of baby carrots...i dont know why! its the only veggie i buy that i dont put in salad and i always forget about it sitting in the back of the veggie drawer when i want to get a snack or something. but i like them so i keep buying them...i think i need to put them front and center on the top shelf haha.

Re: How much do you spend on groceries a week?
I think theres definitly a discrepancy on how much needs to be spent on the number of brothers or sisters in a family..
Female dominated families seem to spend much much less...
I don't chuck much away, any extra's i take to my mums or give the neighbours (who love curry) lol

Re: How much do you spend on groceries a week?
For the husband and I, we spend $40-50 a week. We eat a lot of vegetarian meals, so we're not spending a ton on meat, and I'm weeding out processed foods and only shopping the outsides of the store. Fruits and veggies, whole wheat pita bread, milk, yogurt, and baking staples. I stock up on frozen veggies, canned tomatoes and dried beans when they're on sale, so I always have that on hand. That's about it.

Re: How much do you spend on groceries a week?
assalamu alaykum
food Does seem to be cheaper in the US. I have no idea how much the 2 of us spend, probably 40 squids. Asian food is cheap to cook, maybe that's what it is. i remember my friends in uni used to spend 20 pounds per week and i'd be spending 50

Possibly because a lot of men have bigger appetites and faster metabolism.

and aren't embarassed to take seconds.
I'm glad it's summer. I can set my schedule so that I can cook every day. That should help reduce the grocery bill. Yay for pressure cookers!!!
