Re: How much do you spend on groceries a week?
For two weeks I snuck the 2% without ANYONE (but my mom) knowing. When my dad actually got up to pour it for himself and found out, he thought I was a traitor who betrayed him.
Milk is like my water, so I'm better off drinking skim milk (I had to get used to it) or 2% when I have to.
May Allah guide the rest of my family to the benefits of at least 2% milk.

I don't eat outside. The food prices have jumped (e.g. A bag of Golden Temple Flour that was priced 14 bucks in Jan. is now selling for 23 dollars). I am also counting desi grocery and averaging once a month grocery items (oil, sugar, tea, flour, rice, etc.) into my weekly budget.

Re: How much do you spend on groceries a week?
At home, my parents refuse to budge from whole milk. At school, I get Simply Smart milk. It's one percent, but it doesn't taste watery at all - it's more like whole milk, but it doesn't coat your throat the way whole milk will. They also have a fat free milk which tastes like 2%. Hood is awesome, I'll miss them on the west coast. Hoodsie cups are yummy (even if they're meant for 6 year olds ).
Simply Smart milk

I can see that. Plus, if you buy anything organic or buy fish or anything like that which tends to be more expensive that adds to the cost per person as well.

Yeah agreed.
Amrood, my family is currently six people in one house, because two of my sisters are married and with their own families.
With us six people, we're spending about $200 - $250 a week, NOT counting the price increases due to the current global food crisis.
And we eat like crazy.
So how do you get $100/week for a single person? Unless you're eating out all the time. When I used to pop down to BK for lunch at a rate of five days a week, my bill used to be about $35.

I'm really bad. I end up throwing quite a bit of food away, most of it unopened. I feel incredibly guilty about it, but with fresh food, if you don't eat it within a couple of days it goes rotten.

Re: How much do you spend on groceries a week?
fatima: theres this place in dearborn my parents go to on wednesdays sometimes. i cant remember what its called but everything is like diiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiirt cheap. like they literally bought like 10-12 packs of cherry tomatoes for 2 bux (and they were deliciousssssness)
anyway. i dont grocery shop and i have no idea how much my family spends. but i do know i spend about $50 (give or take) a week on eating out. im rarely home so i always have to eat out. and since i started eating healthier its gettin pretty expensive - like $10 for a salad with chicken on it. stupid life.
THIS IS WHY THE WORLD IS FAT- ITS TO EXPENSIVE TO EAT HEALTHY. jeez.
