farmers markets are nice but a lot of them can be really filthy and smelly sometimes. also most people can't find one down the street like they can a grocery store so it can be a good bit of a drive from where you live which is ok cause you're just going once a week or once every two weeks.

you cant have everything.

yup, some of them only do business one or two days out of the week..generally the weekend.
but usually they're the smaller ones...that focus only on fruit and veggies. the bigger ones have a whole cheese and bakery area + international foods, etc. they tend to be open more often

I spend about 40 bucks for me and the wifey. We eat fresh fruit and veg on that too. We do the Farmers MArkets and shop at cheapo Supermarkets like Food BAsics. I eat mainly Pasta or rice everyday anyway.

We don't drink Soda, we only drink water or Juice and we usually buy one box of the 100 calorie snacks. We buy meat monthly and that costs us about $30 per month. We eat smaller portions and ration out our food.

My wifes parents spend $100-$200 for 3 Adults.

Fresh fruit and veg, and fresh meat is way more expensive than processed and frozen or tinned foods.
Nope...

I was comparing veggies to meat and cheese etc. And packaged stuff is more expensive than either, at least over here. The more processing you get, the more expensive it is... like an M&M meat shop dinner will be more expensive than if you bought all the individual ingredients and made it yourself.

Anyhoo, it makes me miss Central America... you didn't even need a fridge because there was always a market just around the corner. You could eat there for less than a buck all day if you were vegetarian.

The one near my house is only open Saturday morning, possibly Sunday as well. It's within walking distance of the house, so it's real easy to get to but there's only like a dozen stands there. Bigger ones are probably open more.

The one here in Mississauga is open Friday mornings and Sunday mornings, during spring and summertimes.

My mom goes there to buy fresh veggies and fruits. It covers a huge parking lot section of the Square One mall and its mad crazy. She comes back with like massive 30 pound sacks [each] of tomatoes and potatoes and all sorts of other stuff, and she got like each sack for maybe five or ten bucks.

Yeah, we have a farmer's market here too. It just started up for the season, so I'm sure I'll save some money on produce in the upcoming months. It's not that much cheaper, but it's so much better.

My brother and I usually do all the grocery shopping when it's a big shop. He hates it but I don't really care. Parents have done it forever, it's our turn to help out.

Anyway, meat's expensive. We buy meat once a fortnight and grocery shopping's usually done on a weekly basis. If I work out the average, we probably spend about £150/week [$300]. If I add small trips to the local grocers in between it's probably £180/week [$360].

And we're a family of 5/7 during the week and 9 on weekends.

We took the kids strawberry picking last summer at our local farm/berry picking place thing, which is less than about 10miles away from us and we had so much fun. We came back with a load of strawberries, raspberries, plums, courgettes, corn annnnnd what else? Oh! Onions [those were stinky but fun to pull out of the ground].

We had to do it differently to you. Here, when you go in, they give you containers to put your stuff in and a trolley thing so you don't have to carry things around. Then when you're done, they weigh your stuff and then you pay for it. We paid like £30 [$60]. I'm not sure if that's cheaper than buying it from a shop shelf, I'd say it was, but only slightly...but it was definitely fun-er than grocery shopping!

Ditto. Shoes would be flying. I bought 2% milk once and I thought they were going to disown me. God knows what they would have done if I bought skim.

My family doesn't mess around with food. It's gotta be full fat, meat and potatoes.

We spend like $150 at Kroger every two weeks. Another $150 for meat, veggies and fruit, spices and stuff from the Arabic or Indian store. And then another $200ish every month for bulk basics from Sam's Club. Family of 4 (daily) and brothers and sis-in-law on the weekends.
