I ask this because I'm moving in with my college roommates next week, and I don't want to leave shaved pubes all over the place. Any suggestions?

Its mandatory - that and your armpits as well, done once every 40 days at least. Otherwise your prayer isn't accepted. Its part of cleanliness.
And, just do it in the shower, that way all the hair goes into the drain, and because its short hair, it wont clog up the drain either. Although once you're done, just check and make sure there aren't any stray hairs in the tub and always make sure you leave the bathroom cleaner than when you found it.
