so what.
I'm an artist by blood, so I like being as descriptive as possible - whether in verbal or in visual form - and from a business perspective, its better to do your due diligence so that you and the other party see eye to eye.

imo, you're better off dressing in the established mode of dress for your office and distinguishing yourself with your performance and abilities.
|
I'm sure you're aware that the "established mode of dress" has a pretty large variance, depending on the corporate dress code policy at wherever it is that you work. Some places have a narrower definition of what's acceptable and what isn't.
When I go to work, I have some colleagues that come in wearing jeans and a sweater while others are wearing suits and cufflinks.
Ironically [or not] - both forms of dress are acceptable to lower and mid-level management. But the managers themselves who have a track record of success do dress a cut above, and when time comes for upward movement and promotions, how you dress like on a regular basis [and not just for the internal interview] has a big impact.
The other reason why you and I diverge on this issue is because I'm at the client-facing side of operations, in accounts management and corporate sales. Dressing up is standard fare for us, for obvious reasons. Engineers, admin and clerical people, etc., on the other hand, have no such need or inclination.

It depends.. if you're talking about everyone else wearing clothing X, and you wearing a nicer/better tailored form of clothing X, that's one thing. But if everyone is wearing clothing X and you come in rocking clothing Z, you're gonna look like a moron or someone who's overly eager to impress.
|
Yeah, cool. That's pretty much what I said.

I use Old Spice. The stick and the body wash used in the shower.
However, I don't have any of the body wash now in college, so I take about a handful of shampoo and rub it all over my body. That makes me smell nice.

I've been a manager and a lead (I am currently); as long as they don't look like a janitor, I can say how someone dresses has 0 impact on their reviews. Maybe that's just me, though.
The most successful people, I've found, had more important things to worry about than coordinating outfits (which isn't to say they looked like slobs). But then again, the sales paradigm is different.

Nope; I've spent a lot of time facing clients as a consultant, as PS, and as a technical resource for sales presentations. Though I'd agree that sales is more 'superficial,' since part of selling the product is selling yourself, and all that. But that applies to sales specifically, and can't necessarily be applied across the board.

I think that takes about 300 lbs/sq. in., so if you can pack that, you're welcome to try, just watch out for my knee acquainting itself with your face.

Yeah, in sales and finance, it's totally different. The fact remains regardless of which profession you're in, the way you dress does have an impact on how you are perceived. The only time it doesn't is if you're some billion-dollar nerd like Bill Gates and you own your own big fat'ayass company, and well then no one really cares.

Yeah, I work with TSRs too and most of the time dress isn't important to them, and nor is it expected of them. They're just walking talking boring memory banks spitting out technical info in some mundane conversation with their technical counterparts on the client side.
The account execs are the ones schmoozing with the C-levels, and hey, lets face it, that's where it counts because they write the checks and sign on the bottom line.

Re: Mens Personal Hygiene
I have several different colognes that I wear which I like to change up, but for every day stuff (like going to work) I just use Axe.

Re: Mens Personal Hygiene
I love strong scents on guys. Scents that last even when the guy walked away minutes prior. So not only do you have that great image of him, but you can still 'smell' his manly smell.
Axe is a great choice.
For everyday wear, my husband wears Michael Kors Michael cologne. I love the smell of it. Though, I gotta familiarize myself with colognes...the whole world of men is so different.
Anyone have cologne from Sean John?

Female scents make me gag. Whats up with that? They use like half a bottle at one time I should imagine.
I love the cologne that people can only smell when they're right next to the per | |
