Actually the limit probably isn't the real issue. It's the supply and prices. The trade ban of India doesn't really help either.

ok y'all since my family can't live without rice my mom freaked out a little heh. I accompanied her to the Indian store to help her get the rice. There were a lot of people of different races going there to get rice. The "Buy one get one free" is for the ten lb. bag for at least five brands. We got 4 bags for 42 bucks. Normally you could get for 21.

My parents got extremely scared, so they bought up 5 bags sometime last week from Sam's Club. My mom called my dad from CT and told him that she couldn't find rice there, so my dad is going to mail a bag to my sister .

Stuff at our local Pakistani grocery has gone up by $2 to $5. WTF are you supposed to do if you're working a minimum wage job or living hand to mouth?!? Alhumdulillah, we're okay, but STILL!? What about the people that aren't ok? I heard on the news that 1 billion people in the world live off of $2 a day. I'm so blessed to have everything that I have, Alhumdulillah x 50.

seriously though, i feel bad for people (like my parents) who eat rice daily. i think this would have especially hurt their wallets back when my brothers were teenagers and eating insane amounts of desi food all the time.
it's obviously not just rice and wheat either. our grocery bill, for only 2 people, has been going up and up lately, it's almost $75 per month more than before. alhamduillah though for having food, be it more expensive.

i eat rice everyday.

i think it's stupid that they put a limit on the rice cuz all the non-asian people that eat rice twice a year went out and bought 4 bags that are going to sit in their basement.
sam's club and costco should have set up a quota system. 99% of the rice goes to people of asian descent. 1% goes to all others.

also, does this only affect basmati rice?
