Default the worlds rice and wheat crisis

so apparently there's a crisis on the horizon
or it's already begun

actually it concerns the global price of FOOD, period but rice and wheat are hot topics.

BLAME CHINA! damn commies. youd think restricting population might help but nooo

maybe india and bangladesh will help us out, who knows.

the news is alll over the place. some articles say that the production will actually rise because we're seeing this temporary crazy shortage. and others are like OMG NO FOOD WE'RE SCREWED.

my friend told me her mom called her and she and people they know all went out and stocked up on rice and wheat

um anyway this is really interesting. boo to hybridz. ++++++ organic
Business - Organic rice offers long-term solution to rice crisis - INQUIRER.net

of course im not linking an article that says the hybrid is actually going to end up saving us, but whatever.

yea it's pretty interesting, inshallah it'll be fine. I've noticed the price of rice going up...almost doubled here.

I think places like India and Bangladesh are having problems too. I know that the prices for wheat and rice in Pakistan are sky high.

But it's all the poor people that could barely afford food before that will go hungry.

May Allah make it easy for them and give the more well off people the initiative to keep their poorer neighbours in mind. Ameen.

i know man. but there are alll these articles that are all talking about how those countries have more rice than they need and blah blah. it looks like they'll be bought out with huge sums of money if the shortage continues, which is sad for the poor people like you said. a lot of people in southeast asia eat rice like everyday

I cant believe it, my relatives came down all the way from London to buy rice from Tescos who were doing a buy one get one free offer. They bought the whole lot and now selling it to their neighbours and co.

Dad went out today and a bag of rice was 50 pounds which is shocking..................

The reasons for the world food crisis are complex, with major factors being rising cost of oil, as well as using maze/grains for manufacturing gasoline.

There's a good article on it in Wikipedia that discusses it.

Just to make it clear, biofuels are part of it, but they aren't the only thing to blame either. The cost of oil, increase in demand, reduction in suply due to droughts and such in major food producing parts of the world probably contribute as much as biofuels. Taken together, things are getting tighter. In the US, biofuels means corn, and corn related comodities haven't increased in price nearly as much as things like rice and wheat. Like you said, it's definately a complex situation. Fun times.

yeh it was similar with my mom. i didnt evne know about the whole shortage of rice etc, but then one day my mom just went and bought 8-9 bags of rice. i didnt realise it was so bad...then she just gave them to relatives who asked her to buy for them..

i think the economic state of the west is beginning to spiral out of control. the rich get richer, the poor get poorer. but now more people are getting sucked into it.
