I've actually found a sewing friend who's willing to try. Now all I have to do is find the material...
Also, let me just say alhamdulilah for my husband Whenever we go out for a walk or a run, he'll always wear long pants and a long sleeve tshirt. That way I feel a little less po-ed about how much I'm sweating under my hijab-worthy apparel

Re: runners and running
12 more hrs. actually less tahn. im about to hit the sack in a few. i didnt do anything productive today in the least.
so, panicking...beyond belief.
1) THEY have water at the start, finish, and between miles 3 and 4. that's not going to work. i need water at mile 2....... i hope i dont die. im not carrying my own water; it weighs me down.
2) they dont have sports drinks at the aid stations. just water. WTH? at least 500 ppl are participating. 500*30 (we all paid 30 bucks) SHOUDL BE enough to afford gatorade. i'm really scared i'll burn out.
3) the weather is going to be 'partly cloudy skies, high 79F" that's too..hot. too hot without powerade and junk.
ok i'm really nervous.

Re: runners and running
alhamdulillah, it was okay.
1st trail run. lots of hills. crazy incline. sun in your face kind of heat and not enough water at all. or not too frequently available. i was really overwhelmed by all of these factors even though i got to use my mp3 player. it's hard to take your mind off of dehydration. even if you're surrounded by greenery. so i walked like a mile i'd say altogether (in between running)
anyway ill find out my time soon.. i dont think it's going to be very impressive. but i love the experience regardless.

Re: runners and running
I love running
My dad clocked me at 18 mph. I just love running fast (especially at night under the moonlight). You're just going as fast as your body can, and all the world is a blur around you. Under the night sky with the moon and stars, it feels like blasting through space.
Running is my bliss.

Dude, I didn't know we can still post here. I though this became a "I'm a (hijabi) girl and I run...lets look up girlish running jewelry and t-shirts" thread

Eh?
I just saw this was a thread about running, so I put in my two cents.
Btw, Samad got engaged, send him some congrats.

Re: runners and running
Do the boys realize how few muslim women run? Especially of the hijabi variety? Sure, I enjoy the good ol tech talk as much as the next person (see my ignored attempt at starting a conversation earlier on the thread about gulf states buying runners), but when 2 hijabi runners meet, talk inevitably turns to the hijab and clothing.
A thread is what people make of it. If you want to participate, talk running related topics, cuz whining ain't going to help you.
Sally - that band looks great. I wonder how well it would work paired with a buff as the outer part. I originally wore a buff tied up when I didn't cover my neck, but I hadn't really figured out how to wear it al amirah style with my fat face. inshaAllah when I lose weight that will work.
Do any runners have difficulties balancing cross training and running? In the past, I've run almost exclusively and really skimped on the cross training. This time around, I'm rocking the exercise classes (3 weight lifting, 1 kick boxing, 1 yoga), but really struggling to get out there and run. Here's the schedule I want, although I usually dont' get my butt out the door to run -
Sunday - Weight lifting, run
Monday - kickboxing, yoga
Tuesday - weight lifting
Wednesday - run
Thursday - weight lifting, run
Friday - off
Saturday - long run

Re: runners and running
Seriously, this whining about women taking over in this thread and the health and fitness one is lame.
Rahma, I've only been cross-training lately. I injured my achilles during my half and haven't been running since. It's still pretty sore (probably because I don't really rest enough). I tried to run once, but I was in a lot of pain, so I stopped. For me, it works better to alternate running with another activity, so maybe try that?
