Re: runners and running
running on the treadmill is booooooooooring. I can only go a half an hour before I'm ready to tear my hair out. But alhamdulilah, at least I got my running in today.
Unfortunately, we may get a foot of snow this weekend so no running outside for me. Howeva, they're predicitng that the temperature will slowly rise to about 70 on Thursday. What the heck is wrong with Minnesota? We get hit with a bunch of snow, it gets really warm, we're swimming in the meltage, then we get hit with another bunch of snow. Dang.

Re: runners and running
Also, more cute running clothes:
OneMoreMileRunning.com
I've got two of their old school shirts:
Kick assphalt and Sorry, I've got to Run (which I wore to the gym today).
I'm thinking of getting "I'm Running my Mass off" and "this IS my race pace." Especially, this IS my race pace, cuz I really only have one speed - plodding. I think I'll be ready to start speedwork again in a month or so, but right now, it's just building up the base after taking the winter off.

yeah the treadmill is the ultimate suck
and i feel for you. i hate the cold but more than that i hate a teaser of really good weather with a sudden bounce back into the gloomy cold
i was looking through some national race calendars (stuff held by the same org in random cities) and MN was up there..sounds like a decently active town. i wonder how they cope with the cold

Re: runners and running
Minnesota and the Twin Cities in particular have the most excellent running community. There's some sort of race almost every weekend it seems. Lots and lots of beautiful lakes to run around. Plus, the TC marathon is teh awesome, with lots of the big names competing. And we have Team Minnesota, so a lot of elite runners train up here.
Maybe the cold is good for the person? Unfortunately, it's not good for me. I have cold induced asthma, so if I ran in the winter, I wouldn't be able to breathe

same here. cold induced asthma. other than that a whole host of crap starts happening to me if i run in the cold..it's just overall uncomfortable.
and yeah i got the impression taht it'sa decently active running community. that's pretty sweet but i imagine they become dormant during the winter cuz man you guys get SOME snow.
i wanna travel around the country to participate in different events now except it's time + $$$$$$$$$$$$
but a girl can dreaaaaaaaam

Re: runners and running
Destination marathons are where it's at. I'm already planning on my first marathon to be at Disney. I'd go there for my first half, but I don't know if I could save up in time for a trip this coming January (not to mention that registration is already closed), and inshaAllah, come Hell or high water, I'm running a half next spring.

Re: runners and running
I kind of made my own plan, but I based it off a runnersworld.com plan. Their SmartCoach utility will develop a program for you so you might want to look into that.

Re: runners and running
None yet. I figure with a spring marathon next year, I'd start training for it after Ramadan.
In the past, I've really enjoyed Hal Higdon's programs. I'm thinking that once I get my base back in place, I'll start on the Intermediate Spring Training, slightly modified to do shorter long runs on Sunday.

Re: runners and running
I've run a few 5ks in June-August. It can be a toss up, but if you look for races that are in the morning, it's usually cooler. Also, Under Armour heatgear long sleeve shirts are THE BEST for summer running. Cotton, yuck. Most other long sleeve shirts that are designed for spring/fall/winter, waaay too hot. Heatgear = designed for hot weather
*ah, the joys of being a hijabi runner*
