Yeah, I agree with this. New Balance makes good shoes, but everyone is different and there are a bunch of brands out there. Plus, people generally need a specific type of shoe (motion control etc) so then you can try that type of shoe in different brands.

How's your training for the half going? Mine is coming soon

The half has been delayed until the fall cuz I got lazy and quit the gym in the dead of winter. It's probably not possible with Ramadan right smack dab in the middle of fall That means it's probably going to be next spring

inshaAllah yours will go well. Don't forget to post a race report

Yeah, I understand. I prefer to do long runs outside rather than on the treadmill, so I'm not really as prepared as I should be (because of weather and all). The longest I've done is 10 miles, and I really struggled with it. It was really cold that day, so maybe that was part of it. I'm hoping the whole race atmosphere helps me make it through - especially since headphones aren't allowed

the no headphones rule blows. good luck PhDgirl i tooootally understand weather issues. i have to have this perfect weather to be able to run without stressing..or else i suck miserably.

if im on a treadmill theres no way i can be under or near a fan or the AC vent..or i lose my breath.

crazy stuff. i wonder how marathoners do it.

I've noticed a few races out there that don't have no headphone rules. I'll definately be signing up for one of those inshaAllah.

Something that might help you pass the time though - dhikr. One time my ipod ran out of batteries at the beginning of an hour run. I actually found that doing dhikr in a rhythmic way kept me on pace and not bored out of my skull.

I think the no headphones thing will be for any race that's a qualifier for the Boston Marathon because it's a USATF regulation. I'm not at all interested in qualifying for elite runner status or anything though! Thanks for the dhikr suggestion though - I will try that. I was also thinking of joining a pace group (the race is having them) so that I don't start out too fast and lose energy at the end. I'll see how it is at the race expo.

running as a sport is virtually non existant amongst south asians..at least india/pakistan..

and kenyans are the fastest runners in the world

i wonder if there were more studies done on south asian runners and running, what we'd find out about our limitations or lack thereof

That is sick and disgusting. It's also probably not a good idea for a child that young to be partaking in extremely rigorous physical activity, since it could affect his development.

Music is Haraam....

Anyways, I haven't ran for months. And my 5k time gets slower every year

So yeah, I'm going to the race expo tomorrow to pick up my bib and chip. I think there are going to be a bunch of vendors there, so it should be cool to see all of the running gear.
