Don't increase your mileage too fast - you will hurt yourself. Just increase your long run by a mile a week and you'll be fine iA. What's your longest run now?

10 miler, however..i haven t been doing it regularly enough at all to call it my longest run

so...yeah youre right i need to increase mileage carefully

so this week i kept track of my mileage for once..cuz i have to get serious about this stuff now

last sunday (not yesterday) = 6 miles
monday = 6 miles
wed or thurs = 5 miles
saturday = 7.75 miles
sunday = 3 miles

total for the week = 27.75

a GRAND improvement from my regular weekly totals alhamdulillah...but this was accomplished because i left out a few other hardcore things i normally do..i dont mind compromising them right now..

good thing: i can FEEL my heart becoming fitter. it's an amaaaaaaaazing feeling mashaAllah mashaAllah. it no longer takes the same kind of effort to get it riled up or to start huffing and puffing..

good thing: i dont need to skip days between running anymore

bad thing: my left knee sort of hurts but not really...i think i need to stretch

good/bad thing/cant decide: ummmmmmmmmmmmmmm, ive been eating a lot of carbs...and all credit is due to them (and of course Allah and then the power he instills in me and the carbs) but like man, i feel GREAT when i run on a decent amt of carbs..i realized i wasnt eating them properly before...so like now im just worried about gaining weight or something because like i said it no longer takes me crazy effort to run fast/hard...and im afraid the carbs arent really getting burnt off.. but like really i couldnt care any lesser..my carbs have increased, proteins decreased and fat is about the same or decreased

ok so this week insha'Allah i aim for 30 miles..i wanna try maybe like 40 because i havent been feeling sore at ALL...so im thinking i havent really reached my limits at all but i have to be patient

and i registered for the half marathon..and we got personalized bibs..haha and i got MUSLIM GIRL written on it. normally im not a fan of screaming muslim but this is a big deal for me..i wanna represent

If you're hurting, don't run as much because it will only get worse. Try to run three days a week (with cross-training in between). Just increase your long run by a mile a week and then you'll be okay. Maybe make it 8 miles next week and then see how it goes. Good luck!

Be careful of step - that can hurt your knees. A huge part of training is just keeping yourself healthy. If your half is in November, you can afford to take a week or two off of running and doing more low-impact things until you don't feel pain. Then start slow with the running. Good luck!

I need to get on a Treadmill for the days its rainign and such.

Anywho make duas for me..

That's great! Even if you can only run a minute and need some time to recover, keep at it and you will improve iA.

I use two rough guidelines:

The Talk Test: If you are running so fast that you would be unable to carry out a conversation, then you are going too fast.

The Breath Sound Check: You should at least be exercising hard enough to hear yourself breathing. If not, then you are not exercising intensely enough.

Be light on your feet, i.e. try not to land too hard on them. You can do this by trying to land more on the balls of your feet (the front portion) as opposed to the heels. This way, less impact is transferred to your knees, and more towards your thigh muscles.
