Re: Female Personal Hygiene
I don't like Head n Shoulders either. My husband seems to prefer Selsun Blue (although I think it smells like popcorn ) I used to use Dove, it smells so goood! Right now I either use Herbal Essences or Tresemme, the latter's good at removing buildup

Re: Female Personal Hygiene
Which shampoos contain sulfates? And why are sulfates so bad?

Re: Female Personal Hygiene
I use Redken...full body I think? (the green bottle). Totally worth the $.
I hated dove; I felt like it left my hair oily and dirty feeling. Head and Shoulder just dried my out.

Re: Female Personal Hygiene
p.s. one of the hardest fph related things about moving to a new city is you have no where to go for your fph-ness. you don't know where the hijabi friendly salon is, the waxer, the threader, the facial lady. i have an eyebrow appointment in a few mins, god i hope she doesnt suck.

Re: Female Personal Hygiene
Question for desi ladies:
One of my friends was telling me that in India, young girls use pumice stones to remove hair and over time the effects are permanent. She hasn't tried it, but she knows a lot of aunties who have very little hair. I thought it was maybe due to a result of old age, and she was just saying they literally had no hair. I dunno... I figured some you girls would know?
Anyways, like I mentioned to you gals before, one thing I do to prevent ingrown hairs is exfoliate with a body brush every time I shower. Anyways, I epilated my legs about 2 weeks ago and a lot of the hair now that started to grow back is much finer. In fact, I hardly noticed it coming in. Usually it's waaaay more obvious Anyways, I've epilated for a long time and have never had this effect before. I don't know if it's because of the rubbing or somehow my hormones fluctuated (but the hair has always been like thicker as far as I remember). I thought it was kind of cool.
Maybe it's a fluke, any thoughts?

it really does suck! i get my eyebrows threaded in NJ when i go. I went here a couple time and i jst dont like the results. I rather be a beast for 2 months then mess up my eyebrows. And i dont know where to go here for haircuts and facials. I went for a haircut a couple months back here and the person jst didnt do a Great job..jst ok. But i did find a nice asian salon who does a good job waxing and i've become really friendly w/the owner.
Salika: i've noticed that my leg hair is finer than before. i have yet to figure out why that is. Before i figured it was cuz of the cold/winter weather..but now its summer and its still the same. Of course i'm pretty happy with it.

I know a place that can cut your hair. I called my friend a few weeks ago and asked her. I just forgot to tell you . I dunno how much they will charge, but if you tell them that you wear a scarf and you need to have your hair cut and washed privately, they will accommodate your needs and put up a partition and everything. My friend may still be on maternity leave, but I gave her your name.

Re: Female Personal Hygiene
Salika, I've never heard of that, maybe it's just not a widespread or popular practice. Whenever I've gone back to visit Pakistan I've found that everyone waxes (arms, legs, backs, everything ), they despise razors...my cousins make fun of me for using one . My grandmother (dad's mom) used to have this Iranian lady that came to her house once a month for years and used sugar wax on her. My grandmother likes to boast that she has no hair now on her legs, arms or underarms

my roommate is the one who actually introduced me to a pumice stone... her mom had been using it for a while and didn't have any hair anymore, so she started using it herself. after about 1-2 years of regular use, she barely had any hair anymore either. i started using it a few years ago but i'm just not regular enough with it... i do it maybe once a week instead of every day or every other day.. but i'm pretty sure it gets to the no-hair point eventually...

Re: Female Personal Hygiene
edit: Salika, sumiyia: I have tried a pumice stone on my legs before as an exfoliant against ingrowns...it dries out my skin a lot and my legs itch afterwards. Is there a certain way to do it where it's not so rough on the skin?
I dont follow celebrity news but by watching CNN it's hard not to pick up some celebrity news.
I'd just like to say Christian Bale is my hero..he's a real man.
